Hey guys!
I've been lurking on this forum for, I don't know, around two months now. I finally decided to get round to posting an introduction thread here. I'm real life friends with Mermaid Syrena, and decided to have a go at making my fabric own tail after I saw her lovely FinFolk (because I don't have the moolah for a silicone one). I bought blue-and-silver spandex (http://i58.tinypic.com/333wg7r.jpg) that isn't too scale-like, but honestly, fabric tails are meant to be stylised anyway. ;) I had a Mahina monofin shipped over to my place and have been happily swimming around in it for a month - it works like a dream! Hopefully swimming with a tail will be even better. I'm three-quarters done with the tail (just need to sew in the final seams), so hopefully I can post pictures up soon! My dream tail would be one from merbella, but it's probably never come to fruition because I'm a poor undergrad.
Anyway, more about myself. I'm a pole dancer, so I'm honestly more used to being in the air than in the water, but I'll learn. My current addiction is neopets, which I reacquainted myself with after more than 12 years of hiatus, so if any of you have an account on there, send me a friend request. What I'm still struggling to master is to open my eyes underwater. I can only blink for a few short seconds while submerged, so I have no idea how you all manage to look so graceful while swimming with your eyes open! No pretty videos for me till I master that. Unlike so many of the posts here where people find themselves born to swim or born to mer, I think of myself more as the ugly ducking with lots to learn. My first time in the pool with my merfin ended in me grinning like a maniac as my boyfriend held me up bridal-style in the pool, splash-flopping the fin on the surface of the water and chanting "I'm a fish! I'm a fish! I'm a fishie fishie fish!"... hence the quote in my signature. I only managed to properly swim in the merfin in my second or third time. I major in Sociology, so feel free to debate with me on social issues. I always love a good discussion.
It's really nice to meet you guys after all this time. Hopefully I'll make some good friends here! See you around~
