hey everyone

I am starting to work on a new neoprene sequin tail which will be partially painted.
now i tested my acrylic on a sample neoprene tail i made for an old barbie doll just to see how it works.
the paint itself is fantastic it doesn't crack etc. i also used "krylon" brand crystal clear acrylic coating 1303 to waterproof it more.
while testing it in normal tap water it was fine but as soon as i took it out and laid it to dry on a paper towel some of the coloring came of and made the towl blue.

does anybody know how i can 100% waterproof my acrylic paints??

I wouldnt put that type of paint on neoprene. it'll crack and flake even if you put something over top. you should use fabric paint or screen printing ink.

Some people use acrylic, but it doesn't say nice looking. It will crack down the line. Some people don't mind- like Malena Sharkey's original tail was neoprene and tooooons of layers of acrylic paint.. but it cracks, even if you stuff the tail or sit in the the tail while painting.

Popular paint choices for fabric and neoprene tails are generally fabric and screen printing inks, the two particular brands that are favorites for tails are Jaquard (http://www.jacquardproducts.com/paints-and-inks/) (particularly Lumiere (http://www.jacquardproducts.com/lumiere.html)), and PermaSet Aqua (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buypermasetinks.com%2F&ei=pfGUU6TdJ4WIogSKi4CYBg&usg=AFQjCNFptvtFeLdlkKDkK6gsoygLcHlvKA&sig2=EOzD-fti3wGwyZonUgEKXw&bvm=bv.68445247,d.cGU). Most of them have to be heat set- both those specific brands do- for the color to stay put. Heat damages lycra and neoprene. Some people chance it and heat set with an iron. Otherwise, use a no heat fixative (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?3623) to avoid having to heat set.

I found these fabric paint online, waiting for my next paycheck before I'll order some. It says there you don't need to heat set it, so I'll get some and try it out.
