Alternative Netting?

Hi!
I'm running on a really tight budget due to a recent slip-up with my smartphone ending up in a saltwater pool. I'm gathering a bunch a crafting supplies around my house to make my first mer-top to match the material I've had saved for my first tail.
Seeing as I'm on a budget and I'm not in a location to just ask for an old net, I found an old netted clothes hamper that has a few rips in it. The color of it matches with the tail I'm making but I'm afraid it wouldn't work to decorate my top.
Would using the netting that I recycle from the hamper be okay?

Do you happen to know what the netting on your hamper is made out of? I can see it working, but depending on what it's made out of it might not hold up in the water after multiple uses. Should at least be worth a shot, though!

The netting's 100% polyester. Would that work?

Hmm, poking around online Google is telling me that polyester should be pretty durable when in contact with chlorine, so it should be alright!
