what do you put into a pitch letter asking about working at a nautical shop on Saturdays for summer? what do you NOT put in? I tried looking this up, but there's nothing for me to work off of.

I wrote and sent several to local water parks. I included 5 photos of me in various situations (model shots, interacting with kids, underwater shows, etc), and links to my webpage where I have a demo video. I got a few bites of interest but no actual bookings. Most of my bookings come thru GigSalad or Facebook (and word of mouth, of course.) I performing everywhere this summer, from pools to waterparks, birthday parties to city sponsored events. So, perhaps this letter has some red flags in it that kept them from booking me. Mostly, I think I should have applied in person. (The spacing was not this big, it's just how it copy and pasted. It was about 3/4 of a page long.) I followed a basic business letter request outline. Formal yet I was talking about mermaiding. The juxtaposition of these made me laugh. Not sure how it was received.

To Whom It May Concern: A PERSON'S NAME IS ALWAYS BEST IF YOU CAN FIND ONE
I am a professional swimming mermaid based in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. I am seeking opportunities to entertain and educate children and adults all while furthering imaginations and making dreams come true.
For a trip to Hawaii, I bought my first mermaid tail as something of a joke. I became quite the attraction while there and even posed for photos with guests from all over the world. Adults and children were equally mesmerized. Once home, these photos and videos were posted on social media. I have since been hired for birthday parties, commercials, trade shows, and a student film.
Over the last year I have developed certain tricks that have enhanced my performance including flips, twists, bubble shapes, and an extended breath hold. Mermaid lessons are part of the activities when swimmers are in the water with me. Recently, I have added an educational component to my appearances. I give lectures about the need to protect the ocean, water conservation, and basic information about marine life. Motivational talks about following a dream and how to build a successful business in a niche market are also available.
As a lifeguard and swim instructor, water safety is integral to any mermaid appearance. For this reason, (at certain events) I am accompanied by a lifeguard dressed as a pirate who functions as my handler and an extra set of safety-minded eyes. He will also carry me from my preparation area to the water and back again, as I never appear out of my tail in public. This pirate lifeguard is my contracted employee.
Please consider Mermaid Laura for your special events this summer or throughout the year. I am available for dry photo opportunities, swim and smile appearances, and to give full swimming shows followed by a motivational and/or educational lecture. I swim in fresh, chlorine, or salt water. Due to the variables on the services I provide, compensation is negotiable. Photos, videos, letters of recommendation, and reviews are available on my webpage, www.LauraLWatson.com (http://www.lauralwatson.com/mermaid.html).
I believe the advertisement of a real mermaid appearing at your facility will drive up sales and increase the positive customer feedback for your business. I look forward to discussing future opportunities with you. Thank you for your consideration, and may God bless you with a safe summer!
Sincerely,
Laura L. Watson
