Sup Merpeeps!
So the state the obvious I'm another new member, and as the title states I'm from the Boston area of MA. I've been poking around the site for a couple of days now and figured it was about time I put one of these threads up.
I tend to go by Sin under this screen name though my real name is Caitlin and I'll answer to either. I don't have a character name yet but once I do I may swap out my current moniker for the new one.
I am brand spanking new to the community. No tail, no mersona, and only the very beginnings of plans and thoughts being put into creating the whole character and career thing. I bought my first monofin about the same time I signed up here and I plan on working with that for a while along with possibly some gym and yoga time relatively soon and seeing what happens to my current body shape before I invest any money in a tail just to wind up having to take it in or something. I do have a general idea of what I'd like in terms of tail color and shape, but knowing myself I need to really think on it before I can say I'm totally committed to something.
Mermaids have always been an interest of mine, though not one strong enough to have steered me toward this potential career path by itself. Mythology is very interesting to me and mermaids were just sort of jumbled up in the mix somewhere. I have however always had a very strong affinity to the ocean and any other kind of body of water. I just can't get enough of the stuff, both the water and the marine life. I have briefly considered marine careers in the past though I never followed through with any of them. I got a BA in photography instead and hopefully I can incorporate that into everything here.
My first hint of the mer community actually came from Raina. She used to be a member of a forum I'm still active on and will probably remember me under the character name Isabel and might even be a little surprised that this sort of thing is right up my alley. Once she left I later wound up finding her on Tumblr and followed her page for later browsing. Honestly I didn't pay too much attention to it while it was mixed up in the rest of my dashbard until I cleared out a bunch of blogs that had accumulated on my following list and it became a more prominent thing. I started browsing her page and bought her book and just kind of went "Yeah, okay. I can totally get behind this. Shit, let's be mermaids!" And so here I am.
Hopefully this interest is a lasting thing for me because as of right now I'm super excited to start investing time and money in it and hoping it's something I will really enjoy doing. I'm eager to get to know some other people int he community and hopefully find myself a comfortable fit in it, too.
Don't be afraid to message me or anything if you feel so inclined~
