Fabric materials for sequence tails.

Recently I've been seeing some really pretty sequin tails so, I decided that I'm going to try and make one! However...I'm not too sure were to get materials.Can I just use fabric or will the sequence come off? I can't use latex because my mother and I are allergic to it.I also want to know if it is easy to swim in a sequence tail.
