So ages ago when I first started mermaiding (2 years ago?) I was looking for tutorials on making "movie professional" tails (this was before I was introduced to mernetwork)... I can't remember where I saw it but I saw something that suggested cutting scales out of a cheap fabric that was in the colour you wanted, coating/dipping in silicone then somehow making it into a tail, which I thought was pretty neat- it would save money on
-scale molding
-pigments/paint
-and use a bit less silicone

anyway, now that I know a bit more about making silicone tails from all the wonderful resources here, I'm left wondering if it would actually work?
would it affect the stretch of the tail? Would the fabric degrade? Would you even be able to see the fabric well through the silicone? Would it just be too time consuming???
thoughts? I started reading some of pearliemaes tail tutorial (I'm in love with it so far!!!!!) and I think she did this for the fins, right?

whhat are your thoughts people? All I'm thinking about is how pretty holographic fabric scales would look! Or textured fabrics beneath the silicone would add so much depth!

I'd say it might be worth some small tests, just to see how it would turn out. And Pearliemae did use some shimmery fabric inside of her fins, and so far it doesn't seem that the fabric has degraded because it is fully sealed within the silicone. How would you attach all the silicone coated fabric scales? And I'm guessing you'd still have to cast the fluke, though you could embed fabric into it too and use less or no pigments.
