Is tulip fabric paint a good paint for scaling a tail? My friend and I want to see if we can start a small fabric tail making business and want to give the option to add scales but can't decide on a paint. We tried a small swatch of tulip paint on a scrap of swimsuit material but it kind of was translucent, the yellow paint turned green on the blue fabric. Would that problem be solved by just adding more layers? And if so, would it crack easier then? Thanks!

Try more layers and once its dry, test it in the water to see how it wears off. All the paints I have used can fade after awhile, but not by much.
If not sure on anything with tail making, always experiment till it's perfect. Good luck!

Would you be using spandex or neoprene? I know for neoprene some people use automotive paint and it works wonderfully.

Just plain spandex. It's between Tulip and Lumiere as the best. I think they both have redeeming qualities
