So as many of you may know, I hope to start a tail business in the following months and am currently perfectly pattern making but my patterns are coming out about an inch bigger then I am, I've triple checked all my measurements and made servral different patterns for different people but they all have the extra inch around the border, any ideas why this is happening and how do I fix it?

Are you leaving a seam allowance? I find I don't have to leave any seam allowance in stretch fabrics.

No, I'm just using my measurements and dividing them by four and drawing the line from The middle of the paper to the edge. The paper is folded so when I finish connecting all my lines I cut it out and unfold it so both sides are symmetrical

Well the pattern itself will be bigger than you. It accounts for the sides of your legs as well.

Will the tail turn out too big if I use the pattern? Won't it be like two inches too big?

No because it needs the extra length to wrap around the side of your body. If you were to (bear with me) take your skin and lay it flat, it would be bigger than you. That being said, if your material is stretchy, you may have to take it in to get it tight. It's better to make it too big than too small. You can always take it in, but letting it out is harder.
