Hi, I have just received my Dargon skin trial kit I ordered and was wondering if anyone seen any top or small project tutorials so I can practice using the material before I jump right into making a tail?

Hi there. I searched but didn't find any full-on tutorials about making tops or accessories. I haven't started using silicone yet, however, I do sew a little so I have some kind of an idea about how things are put together. For starters, you could make a small scale mold to create a tiny rectangular piece of scales. You can practice making/using a mold and mixing/pouring the silicone, as well as painting it. Then, practice your seams by making some wristlets (think like a thick bracelet made out of scales - I've seen them around here before but I can't find a photo for reference at this time). This would be a simple project that could get you used to working with it.
I imagine tops would be more difficult, so perhaps someone else who has made silicone tops could better explain it!
I do think it's a good idea that you're wanting to practice first before diving right in! Good luck :)

Thank you :) I had the plan to make some wrist cuffs, I love to make a top but I'm sure I'll get a better idea of the products limitations once I have used it :) tutorials are hard to come by!

Mizuko has made a scale top, I can't remember if she had any details in her tail making threads but it could be useful to look up :) I was originally going to say you could essentially make a dart in the cups like a bodice, but I don't know if it would produce pointy scales. And I'm not sure if you need to make a duct tape dummy of your torso first or anything. I'm curious to learn how to make them too! :) I'd love to see what you come up with as well.

Thanks :) im asuming the dragon skin can be either molded in a scale sheet and cut and seemed diliconr to form the cups or molded around s form, I madea small scale sheet today to run some tests, have on curing now, I used some pearl eyeshaddow powder to add color to the silicone, can't wait to see how it turns it?

I was actually wondering too if people have experimented with high quality silicone caulking just for tiny things like embellishments etc.

I haven't tried to use caulking, not sure how it would work I don't imagine it has the same stretch properties. Scales nearly cured eek! :) AniaR , could you tell me the approximate thickness of the silicone in your Merbellas tail? :)

I did find some cool special effects moulding and casting inline stores that had heaps if cool materials as alternatives to silicone for accessories, there were light materials that would be great for tops and hair pieces :)

my merbellas tail is different than all the others. It was the first one and I specifically had it made extra thin. So I dont recommend it as standard.

How thick is a silicone tail usually? I can imagine they would be super heavy out of water :)
