Ok so not so long ago i was swimming in an empty pool in my tail. so after a few laps realizing that goggles suck but chlorine is a b*tch this boy came. so the boy came up to me and comment saying my tail looks neat and the "wow you made that" thing. then he asked me questions like "is it weird for me (a boy) to be a fan of mermaids" "i would totally wear one but it would look weird on me" thats when i pulled out my phone and showed him all the mermen to prove to him that everyone can like/ be a mer. that's when he started releasing his joy of them. we had conversations about what he knew about the mercommunity and mako mermaids and blah. we had races and that's when i realized how good he was in the water; better then I.

so i figured out that he has the same body type as me. same hight, same weight, same shoe size (it got me mad on the inside because apparently he didnt hit his growth spurt of manhood yet so he as a lot of time to grow and that means im short =A=) now i never let anyone try my tail on never ever. but since it was a fabric tail and he has abit of experience i asked him if he wanted to try (dont yell at me i know you shouldn't let people try it on because of safety issues but he looked qualified and i was there to help and he had my body sizes and i made sure to do everything safely ) his face lit up. he first struggled and said it felt weird but the way he swam was excellent for a beginner. im trying to convince him to learn how to sew to make his own, he did speak about how fabric tails cost around $100.
its also good that i met him because apparently this dude was ignoring the ear pain when he went too deep and didnt equalize so i had to lecture him about pool safety. im only telling this story because this was a different encounter i had with a person and it made me think about gender roles and shit. i dont know but it was fun and safe and fun.

That's an adorable story! I'm glad to see a budding merman! Because of the whole gender-bias thing, too many psychological issues get in the way and lead to the fact that there just aren't enough mermen out there. Thank you for spreading the love!

Aww that's cute.

A close friend of mine wanted to see my tail and I found out she'd been on the swim team for years and all sorts of stuff. It made her so happy to swim in it, and now she kinda wants one. Before I sewed my tail I'd let some of the other swimmers at the pool I went to try my merfin if they wanted. I think it's ok so long as you can tell that they know what they're doing. :)
