So, since I am spending this week in Virginia Beach and will hopefully visit the aquarium, I am just curious as to what all y'all other mers think to be the best aquarium or one you really enjoyed! Every time I go anywhere that has one, I go see it. I've visited the Tennessee one many times, the Georgia one once, and the Ripley's one in Gatlinburg. A lot of times I rate aquariums on how fun it would be to be a mermaid in :P I really liked all of them, and I just wanna see y'all's opinions on any that y'all have visited! Aaaand begin :)

There is a distinct lack of big aquariums in Germany (or all Europe), the most notable is probably the Ozeaneum in Stralsund.
It has a big dark hall where visitors can lie down, with life-sized whale models hovering above in the cupola.
That's pretty cool.
The showtanks contain samples of each ocean variety, but none of them would be very pleasant to mermaid in (too small, and too cold. They pride themselves on their arctic basin and the one with the native Baltic sealife- temperatures are accordingly low :p )

I think the best one I've ever gone to was in Sydney, Australia. But we have a quite nice aquarium right here in the Twin Cities, at the Mall of America.

we dont have any here at all. I think the closest one may be Toronto? But everytime I travel anywhere I visit one. I have to say the Aquarium of the Pacific is AMAZING and so is the Florida Aquarium. I was mega underwhelmed by the one in NC and I just went to the Biodome in montreal and found it seriously underwhelming too. (Like a shopping mall zoo or something)

Monterey Bay Aquarium in California is also quite nice. They have good exhibits and a lovely sea vista right on their doorstep, with seals and sea otters frolicking about. But they are SO CROWDED!! Throngs of peopple make it hard to get close to anything.

BTW, the background in my logo pic is a shot from that aquarium:

I really love the Birch Aquarium in San Diego. It is relatively small, but laid back and not very crowded. And they have a wonderful collection of seahorse species.

For freshwater aquariums, I like the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth. They've got all kinds of interesting critters there. (I've been trying to get them to book Neptune's Keep or Mermaid Galene, though, with no success, which is frustrating.)

I've been to a few aquariums including the Florida one and I don't know what it is but in recent years I can't bare it I think they are the saddest places to see now - when you see more sharks in captivity than you ever have in the ocean wild and free it really upsets me - I know people want to learn and see these creatures but I think people should seek these experiences through nature - the marine life kept in these small artificial habitats can't be happy and they behave much differently from free marine life - I know some places here in Thailand that started breeding program's and try to repopulate them into the wild but to me aquariums have become a money spinner for human entertainment - check out Songkla aquarium - they really abuse the marine life there doing stupid shows harassing sharks and riding turtles ... That's not education that's just awful - but yeah I know they are not all like that but in places where Eco tours are available like diving or whale watching etc I think those kind or experiences are a lot more significant and special x
