I went and purchased material today. Not for just one tail but two tails, two swim pants & a top.

Below are pics of the material for my pretty tail and the swim pants to go with my dolphin inspired tail.

Okay. So after some sleep and letting the sewing machine take a break...it hadn't been used in years...I was able to finish my dolphin swim pants. And i have plenty of time to get this update posted before heading to the water park.

Please forgive chub and bad picture. I don't have a full body mirror and everyone else in the house is sleeping.

Also checked on my monofin which is in transit...I should get it by Wednesday.

Nice! Are you wearing the pants under the tail or are they just separate swim clothes?

Both. I'll be taking in the seam to make them more form fitting. But they are great just over my regular swimsuit bottoms...I'm at the water park now wearing them.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/07/nerubyra.jpg

What monofin are you getting? Also, are you going to switch them back and forth or get two monofins?

I'm getting the FinFun monofin. I'm making my tails open at the bottom like the FinFun tails.

My fin arrived. I'll take pictures when I get to work. I had it shipped there so I could sleep.

So I just had a brilliant idea today! How awesome would it be to use a bit of the silver material on the fluke of my blue tail and paint ridges on it so it looks a bit more realistic.

-laughs- yeah I didn't realize how the pictures of the fabric spread across the table looked I was cleaning out my gallery and compared it to the picture I took of it in the car outside just after I bought it. When I saw it at the store I new it was gonna be my tail even though I had already got 4 yards of the silver cut. I know I'll be going back there for sure. Already got a request to make some swimsuits for the little cousins for next summer.

Can I ask where you got that fabric from? I've been looking for a nice shimmery fabric for such a long time now!

I found it at a store in Dallas that sales nothing but stretch fabrics. But you can find similar fabrics in online stores.

So I've run into a major problem. My sewing machine isn't working anymore. Just as I get ready to sew my tail together too.

Anyone got a machine I can borrow.

I do, but it's kind of a cheapie. Low end Brother. But if ya need, it's here in Arlington!

I might take you up on the offer Seavanna. I've asked a few friends closer to my area if they have one I can borrow.

Thanks Meko. I'm hoping it looks great but the sewing machine is holding me back at the moment. Once I get it sewn together I'll post pics for sure.

Progress even with a sewing machine not working correctly.

Belly side of fluke...

Tail on...left enough extra that I may make it a full body suit.

Nearly done. Just have to decide how high up I want the tail to come.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/15/ada6yvyq.jpg

Should I stop the tail at my waist or up over my chest?

Seatan
07-14-2014, 06:58 PM
I love the ones that come up high simply because they are so different and unique, but your tail is gonna look awesome either way!

I like the high ones, just cuz I love the chick on the tuna can XD

What would you be most comfortable in? In my opinion, there aren't enough full suited mers. The fabric is marvelous! Can't wait to see it finished!

PS: your blue heeler looks like my sister's dog, Ashes!

AmbrGlows

I like the coverage of full body but I'll still have to make a top to wear underneath so when I take my tail off I'm covered. Making a separate top may be needed anyways as I noticed after posting that you could see where my black leggings underneath the tail stopped.

The blue heeler is an old boy who stays inside now so he is shaved down to stop his shedding...mom's allergic.

That's so cute! You could very easily keep going with that necklace if you wanted too! I've seen a lot of (non-mer related) jewelry and then keep on connecting things onto it to make a big V shape. You could do that with starfish and shells and pearls :)

AmbrGlows
07-17-2014, 10:36 AM
I have 2 or 3 pearl necklaces to make too that will match my tail. I just thought the red coral chips & shells looked pretty & would make a nice contrast piece to all my blue, silver & black from everything else.
