View Full Version : How long would a NeoprIN and Silicone tail hold up?

Hello there! Forgive me if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't quite sure where to put it...
Anyway, I recently purchased a tail that said it was silicone backed with neoPRENE online. When it got here, however, I found out it was not neoprene, but neoprin (As well as the fact that it needed some silicone patchwork, but this was expected.)

I'm now debating whether I should send the tail back or not. I like a lot about the tail, but if I would have known it was made with neoprin I probably wouldn't have purchased it. However, I did get a moderately good deal on it in my opinion. So, my question is, does anyone know how long it would take for a silicone tail backed with neoprin to fall apart or stretch out? I don't know if the silicone may help keep some of the neoprin from stretching too much or not.

Thank you so much for your help!

Aw man, that really sucks. I try and tell people that certian tailmakers, like Mertailor, make their partial tails with neoPRIN so they know what they're getting into. Neoprin just should not be used for tails IMO. Anyway, I'm not sure. I've heard several people who got partail silicone tails with neoprin and the neoprin just kept stretching and stretching and stretching until they couldn't use it anymore. Like mermaid Kat who eventually let her husband wear it for some shoots, as it was stretched out so much, then she was talking about selling or trashing it. That was only after a few months. Others have said that the stretching wasn't a big issue.

If the site/tailmaker says it's made with neoprene, and you got neoprin, you have every right to send it back for a refund. They'd most likely say "we have a no returns policy, blah blah blah" but if they delivered a product different than advertized product, you would win in a claim for PayPal, your credit card company, your bank, or in small claims court.

Hopefully some other have better input so you can better make a decision :)

Thanks for the help! I think that gives me a better idea, that the silicone may not help much with the stretching :/ It was used, and was an ebay sale however so it should be easy enough to send back which is the good thing! But now that it's here I've gotten kind of attached x) I know that I need to think about how this is gonna hold up long term though!

I thought I was just imagining my partial silicone tail getting looser. This is wonderful to know.. It's to the point that my belt doesn't even help that much and I've only had it since February. It isn't horrible, but I cannot wear it without a belt now. The more you know, eh?

Neoprin doesnt hold up long, I documented it pretty well in my review of my tail. It stretches til you get holes
