Hey!

I'm kind of curious as to whether its possible to make a mer tail out of yarn?? Although I wouldn't call myself 'new' to tailmaking, I never have enough money or have the opportunity to get materials like silicon. But, I love to knit and crochet! I do have some fabric that I can put under the crochet so it doesn't show through, but I'm not super crazy about the tails that are just made out of fabric. I also want to do something that is a little unique. I have made some tops already using a really small crochet hook, and they look good, but I don't have a tail to wear them with! Does anyone have any ideas? Is this even physically possible? Or is there anyone who has already done it?

Caltuna has made a crocheted tail and it's fabulous!

She created a thread about it. Use the search function.

Yep, what she said. Also wanted to add that if I remember correctly, swimming in it is a little troublesome because of how much drag it would have, but it would be lovely for dry use.

I have 3 crocheted tails. One is made from normal yarn.
While it's pretty, I wouldn't recommend it for underwater use.

You can use other materials which are waterproof, but they're still a hassle to swim in, unless maybe you crochet just a loose netting and put it over the fabric tail.

also, crocheting with harder material killed my hand.
Not sure whether the inflammation will ever go away or if I'm now stuck with polyarthritis.

I will most likely use a thinner yarn to reduce drag, but I won't be going in currents or anything. Thank you so much for the advice! Caltuna, do you have any photos of your tails? And what brand of yarn did you use?
