I'm just curious if anyone would be interested in doing that with me?

The idea is we would pick a mermaid themed book for the month and then we'd discuss the legends that we felt inspired the author and what we can take away from it.

I like the sound of that! I don't know that I'd have enough time to read though. :c

are you sure there are enough mermaid themed books around for that?

although there might be more in the future if mermaiding goes mainstream, or if Ms Meyer decides to write her mermaid book...

otherwise, I think this could be a part of the Tailflip magazine rather than a new thing on its own.

Tail Flip is on hold due to there not being enough contributed material for it and that Raina is so busy with other projects. I think there would be enough books. You might have to look out side purely fiction novels, though.

There aren't many books, but there are a little to keep us going for a little bit. Though a few that came to mind were children's books.

That sounds like a really fun idea. I am actually currently reading a mermaid themed book called Deep Blue. The author is Jennifer Donnelly. Its a really good book so far, the chapters are pretty short though.

There's a lot of YA novels about mernaids but I have to go to the nearest library to find them all. Again.

I heard about that series, thinking of buying it on my tablet.

I heard about that series, thinking of buying it on my tablet.

I had a false start on the first one, I had to put it down because it got emotional for me too fast at the beginning and I had to walk away before I started screaming at that book in public. But after I started the second time I ate it all in one day.

So definitely worth buying then? I'm looking forward to it now.

As long as you are a fan of young adult fiction and mermaids I think it would be worth buying. Goodness knows I plan on completing the trilogy on my shelf tomorrow

my favorite is the ingo series. i hope you dont mind a summery
-the protogonist isnt a mermaid per-say but has merblood so she is more connected to the ocean and can breath underwater
-her best friend is a merman
-involves more of saving the ocean from diffrent things then it has to do with looking for her dad
- im pretty sure they dont end up in love

I made an album of the mermaid books I've read and of course will add as I read more, if that will help. I added the description to each book too from the B&N website.
http://mernetwork.com/index/album.php?albumid=1100

I also have a GoodReads account that I've added mermaid books to my wishlist. ;)

I've also read the Deep Blue book! It's slow at first, the chapters are a bit short and it does have moments of oh hum here and there but not as bad enough to make me want to stop reading it further. I'm glad that I did and now I'm looking forward to the next book. Unfortunately the next book is scheduled to be released in January of 2015.

I've been wanting to read the Indigo series too! I haven't been able to find any. I think I may have to get them online.

There's also the book Undine (http://www.amazon.com/Undine-Penni-Russon/dp/0060793902), though it doesn't have mermaids per say, just an affinity for the sea.

I haven't been on mygoodreads account in forever. I'll totally have to add you! I'm almost done with Deep Blue too, I hate having to wait till next year for the next one lol. I read a book called Blue Hour on my tablet. It has mermaids but the story line kinda reminds me a bit of the twilight saga series....

On my website, I've posted 10 mermaid-related books, but these are all YA/Teen fiction: http://fantasymerfolk.weebly.com/pearl-library.html

From that list, I've read "The Mermaid's Mirror" and a little bit of "Lies Beneath". I like reading about merfolk, it's just that romance is definitely not my thing~ I gave those two an exeception, but I'm considering reading more merfolk-related books.

I do have a more serious book called "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore". I was super-duper thrilled to find a book that didn't focus on young girls or that was a romance. It's very informative and factual, and I bought it from Amazon :3
