So I'm starting my new full latex tail and my
Original plan was to use monster makers, had anyone worked with it before? I just want to make sure I'm doing it right, I made a neoprene latex tail last year and used slip casting latex from burman industries and it kind of sucked. Is monster makers better?

I love Monster Makers, they're my go-to for liquid latex. I'm actually sitting here using it right now on a prop! :) Don't know much about Burman, but MM latex has worked well for me over the years. I even had a huge drum of it a long time ago that went well past the expiration date and still worked perfectly in a mold. Plus they have good customer service.

What was your experience with Burman, exactly?

Well my ordering experience was good but the latex is thin and runny even with thickener which might have been my fault, but it didn't set right and changed from the blue I had mixed to a gross green ish color and the second time I tried it it wouldn't set at all which also could have been human error on my part but it just wasn't that great of an experience overall

Odd. I ordered my latex from Burman a few months ago and it went really well for me. I didn't try to thicken it, though, I cast it in molds (made a full-latex tail rather than a latex/neoprene hybrid)

Monster Maker latex is pretty thick, I haven't ever had a need for thickener, and it sets up fairly fast. I don't have much experience mixing color into it, but I've been doing that this week and it has a nice color, although a little color goes a LONG way and I gotta get the mix just right to make it light enough!

I love monstermakers RD-407 latex. I have used it for my first full tail, and am currently working on a second tail. You can check out my thread for the first tail using the latex here : http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?5855-Julz-s-First-Latex-Tail-attempt

I show pretty much every step along the way using monstermakers latex. Its very easy to work with, and not to thick. just make sure you store it in a cool place. Not too cold, not too hot... it don't like either. You can tint the latex with almost any color you can think of. a little will go a long way... but the more you add, the darker the shade will be ( it comes white but dries flesh-toned with no added colors)

Have fun working with it though, and hope your project comes out amazing!

Try Paint and Powder cosmetics. It's RD-407, lots of sizes available and way way waayyyyy cheaper. They're awesome to work with and ship quickly. I used it on my top I finished a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier! (:
