....well okay, a dolphin! A sparkly one!

I'm not sure which fabrics to use, I sorta picked out a bunch. I want to do a two piece overall pattern, I think I'm going to just have to be very mindful of placement with patterning the markings?
This is going to be my first tail - I know, I'm ambitious, but silicone is way expensive and I'm super jealous of how beautiful you all look in your tails! :)
Any thoughts on this one? Do you all like it?
By the by, if anyone wants to use the lineart, let me know, I can just upload it for everyone's use I made it myself.

Are you skilled at sewing? If not I would suggest painting on the markings perhaps?

Yep! I'm pretty skilled at sewing. Buuuuut we'll see how skilled, haha, this might be a bit much for me, admittedly! Painting was going to be my backup in case doing it with just spandex didn't work out. Do you think they might blend better if I painted them?

Aww. You are most welcome. =) painted could help blend it. What you could do is sew the base in one color, then sew the other colors over it, then you can cut the bottom part that can't be seen off and resew the seam so the two pieces connect.

very pretty!
I did several similar tails (with less shiny fabric though, I really need to splurge some day and do a shiny tail as well).
imo, sewed patterns work fine (I don't like excessive paint on stuff I use in water), but I'm sure you find the method that works best for you.

I love this design and I love the fabrics too!!! I can totally see where this is a dolphin, the orca I would cut out the grey colors, but the dolphin allows the white, grey and black!!!! I can't wait to see what you make out of this!!!

That's a good idea Odette! I'll have to see if I can try it that way! :)

Thank you Caltuna! I'm addicted to shinies (mermaid, what can I say!) and I'm with you...I'd much rather sew this. If you do a shiny tail, I'd totally love to see!

Now it's stuck in my head! Hahah what a cute song.

Thank you so very much Chrissy!  I'm glad you think the white grey and black looks good. All of these are from Spandex World and SyFabrics :)
