I am going to a Mer picnic and have been thinking of treats that Merfolk would love to eat. So far I have thought of mini anemone cupcakes, sea cucumber sandwiches and pearl cake pops. I thought this would be a good thread for people to come up with foods that Merfolk love.

In my undersea D&D game I try to keep it interesting, from sweetsponge soaked with inkwine, to clusters of krill wrapped inside serpent sea stars, to plates of blue lobsters and bumblebee shrimp wrapped in kelp leaves. Some merfolk have learned the art of birding; floating baited lassos to the surface to catch seabirds. And then there are treats like garden eel boiled over hydrothermal vents or blue phase mahi garnished with garum.

They are definitely carnivores. I often wear my fangs when in mer getup! (I have some of those caps that are made for your particular teeth so you can just press them on and voila! Real fangs! They make me talk like I have braces on though, LOL.)

I bookmarked THIS SITE (http://moonplantsfishes.webs.com/iafishes.htm) awhile back, when searching for yummy comestibles from the sea.

EDIT: and a source of edible seaweed HERE (http://www.seaveg.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20)

Mmhmm... dulse. I love dulse leaves. Cook 'em like you would bacon, and they come out so crispy and salty.

I LOVE sushi. There's this restaurant near where I live that is good quality and 25 dollars per person all you can eat. (though their seaweed salad is... most unpleasant)

"You all know how mermaids always look for young sailors or princes, yes?
and go to great lengths to meet them, right?

weeeell...it's not for the reason you think it is, but you'll understand when you're older, mwhahaha"

A really cool cupcake I have never had time to make is coverd in a beige frosting, put brown sugar on top to represnt sand and you get those chocolate seashell molds from Michaels and have chocolate shells on top.

Ans seaweed salad is great.I don't like to add the soy sauce, but you can put that on there. I ususally find some nice fresh seaweed at the Asian markets. It's healthy too.

When it comes to sushi, I like urchin, eel, conch, and octopus, though the local sushi place has this fresh scallop dish that is sliced wafer thin and is served with lemon....Mmmmm!!!

As for Nicknames, I have always considered myself to be "Merman Dan, the merman with a farmer's tan". ;) Though in a pinch "Duke of Diamond Shoals" and "Baron of the Briny Deep" will do!

Our sea friends understand why we must eat them. They enjoy their short life spans with us.

That's...a bit harsh...for them. I never liked eating fish, squid, anything from the sea. Is that good?

Why would a land dweller eat another land dweller? Cow, pig, etc. Because we are naturally omnivores and we need the protein and it's what is available. It's the circle of life.

Because that's how nature works. Sharks eat seals. Seals eat fish. Fish eat smaller fish and plankton. Plankton eat microbes. Circle of life.

OMG!! I never would have thought to wear my fangs when in mermaid form. I love running my tongue over mine when I wear them. They were a hit with the guests at the hotel one year for Halloween. Working the night shift vampire just fit.
