Btw sorry for the word wall, I wanted to tell the story and then get to the point of the thread. You can skip to the bottom if you don't really wanna read it :P
So today I went to the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, having convinced my 80 year old grandmother to come with me. We drove and got there around 12:15 pm. The website had said that the mermaid show was in Stingray Bay at 1, near the end of the aquarium, so I was anxious to get there in time, but we went pretty slow because the aquarium is quite beautiful.
We eventually got to the stingray tank, about 5 till 1, and although the show did have a diver, it was not a mermaid. Turns out, the website was wrong and the mermaid show was at 2 in the Coral Reef tank xP
We hung around and saw the rest of the aquarium (the baby penguin was ADORABLE) until 1:30, when we started navigating our way back to the other tank halfway across the aquarium. When we got to the tank, they had a picture point set up with a mermaid. After all of the kids got there pictures taken and the line had completely cleared out, I got up from my seat a few feet away and went over to talk to her. I was super nervous, because I've never actually met another mermaid.
Her name was Alyssa (not sure if I spelled that right) and she was just so sweet. When I walked up, she said to me "I like your shirt" and I said "thanks, I like your tail" :P she explained how the aquarium provides them and they have 6 mermaids working there currently. I could tell that all of the tails were mertailor silicone or hybrid tails. I asked how she got into doing it, and her story was pretty inspiring. She also walked me through the process of applying for the job and what it's like in the job, which I thought was very interesting and I hope to apply in a couple of years. I took some pictures with her, and then stayed to watch the show at 2 and videotaped that. I have to say that my first encounter with a mermaid (although later in life than most) was very gratifying and inspiring.

Okay, now onto the thread.
I know that there is already a thread dealing with what made you believe a mermaid was NOT real and what that encounter was like, however, I want to know what your first encounter with a mermaid was and how it affected you and your mermaid life. If you haven't had an encounter, let me know what you imagine it'll be like.
