I'm not sure where would be the appropriate place to post this, so feel free to move it.

I wanted to share some music that makes me think of mermaids either because of the music, lyrics, or videos, and also leave it here for people looking for inspiration for music they can use to swim to in videos or make slideshows with. Please feel free to add your own.

Music:

I'm hoping you've all heard this hilarious song. It's a cover of a Shel Silverstein song, and who doesn't love Shel Silverstein's clever way with words?

You guys got married on stage at one of his concerts a couple years ago didnt you? Seriously, my mind is blown. Im so slow. I dont know how it took me so long to figure that out what a silly head I am! Valentines day wasnt it?! Ahh Im sure if I googled I could find something about it! (context: Andrew's husband is kinda a big shot musician around here for like, ever! lol)

Okay, fan girl aside (because you know I have love for my fellow east coast musicians bwahaha!) that is a lovely song. I am totally going to buy it. I also really like the sirens of the sea song too. I'm hoping we can get a good database of songs up here but Im also going to try really hard to find ones legal to use in videos!

haha you know I thought you may of heard his music before since you were from Nova Scotia aswell but a lot of younger people dont so i wasnt sure :) you were right about all the details except that it was on the 18th. however while we knew we would get married for over a year at that point we hadnt set a date, so we set the date on the 14th(Valentines day) and got married on the 18th so it was very quick:) and it has been 4 years now :) im sure you could find something on google I think the CBC still has some stories up there. I see you sent me a msg on FB so ill continue replying there before i ramble too much! <3

Okay, so I was thinking we need a really great playlist of music that either involves mers or reminds us of them, the ocean, swimming or anything else related to them!

Please try keep it to mer-related and not just "I like this song/artist/band". Oh, and a note of what type of music, in general, it is would be great too!

For example:

Aqua - We Belong to the Sea (Pop)
Evanescence - Going Under (Rock)
VNV Nation - Beloved (Industrial)
Abri Van Straten - Sunlight and Shadows (New Age) (entire album, esp. Kites, Voices From the Blue, Sound of Waves)

So, what are some of YOUR mer favorites?

I actually have an entire youtube channel dedicated to mer-vids, music and otherwise.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/Acqua1313

Here's a list of some of my favorites (which are all included on my channel)

Underwater Love by Smoke City
Let Go by Frou Frou
Mermaids by Juliana
Swimming by Florence + the Machine
No Air by Jordan Sparks (and the Glee version)
Mermaids, Pirates by The Blue Sky Project
Fragile by Kerli
We Belong to the Sea by Aqua
Not even to mention music from TLM.

There also needs to be tons of Enya, Celtic Woman, and Hayley Westenra added to the list. ;)

Azurin Luna, I feel the same way ever since I got my mac computer... none of my old favorite games (or new games) work without adding windows to my computer.

Also, I was thinking about how mermaids are liminal creatures, living on the borders of water and land, and I suddenly flashed back to this Paulina Rubio song. The lyrics of the refrain are particularly evocative of mermaids: "I am a border girl, crossing oceans in the name of love, and I have been searching for this all of my life. My heart knows when it's wrong and when it's right."

SO out of curiosity....What type of music would you listen to while mermaiding? For those of you with underwater MP3s, what do you listen to? Would you listen to whimsical music or just rock out to whatever?

What would your mermaid soundtrack be?

Kanti
04-28-2012, 02:47 AM
For mermaiding probably something from a videogame. Some cute islandy music or maybe a beautiful
orchestrated piece. Something to keep me in the mood, definitely. But do they actually make underwater MP3s??
If not you'd somehow have to blast the music underwater xD

I'm actually working on a playlist to share with you guys :) I have a few playlists of great mermaiding music! I enjoy Enya, Loreena McKennitt, soundtracks from movies (Legend, Neverending Story, Peter Pan, Secret Garden, Last Unicorn, Pirates, Splash, ect), and a handful of other random mermaidy songs. I have my "Fairies and Mermaids" playlist on my swimp3 player as well as others for whatever mood I'm in. Sometimes I want it more mermaidy magical, sometimes I want some high energy rock or techno, sometimes I want some really chill music.

Lots of Florence+The Machine, Loreena McKennit, Celtic Women, and one of my favorites 'Dona Crei Tun' by Gary Stadler feat. Stephani. I can't tell you how much I love that song. It makes me feel so... fantasy-like. And believe it or not, the entire album is sang in a language she made up, to sound more 'fairy like.'

YES Syrenia!!!! I love some of the stuff Gary Stadler has done, totally reminds me of mermaids! He did some songs with Wendy Rule that are so beautiful! There's one called "Are you coming with us?" and every time I listen to it I imagine mermaids trying to lure someone into the sea....really a perfect mermaid's song! :)

Wow, this is a nice thread idea...I know for me, and I would imagine many others, music is such a part of life that between my iPod and my brain I always have a soundtrack going. I tell ya, thank Goddess for the invention of MP3 players...possibly the only bit of technology I would be very sad to live without. I would love to have one capable of underwater-ness.

As for artists/albums...there are so many I could think of.
Some artists that come to mind are Loreena McKennitt and Enya (both of whom have been mentioned)...also Sade, Delerium, Enigma, Conjure One, and Balligomingo are awesome for mermaid music.
Ace of Base's album The Bridge would work for me (espeically the songs Wave Wet Sand and Experience Pearls), as would both much of the soundtrack and score to The Beach.

Some songs by other artists on my mer-list would be:

Plane that Draws a White Line - Alias & Tarsier
I Have a Dream - as sung by Amanda Seyfriend (from Mamma Mia soundtrack)
In the Sea - America (from The Last Unicorn soundtrack)
Meditation (Wave Upon Wave) - Arlo Guthrie
Guide Me - Arno Elias
Enigmatic Encounter - ATB and Enigma
Wicked Game - Bassboosa
In Existence - Beautiful World
Circle in the Sand - Belinda Carlisle
Because - Across the Universe soundtrack
The One Who Knows - Dar Williams
I Remember - Deadmau5 & Kaskade
Stars - Dubstar
Come Undone - Duran Duran
Island in the Sun - Emma Roberts or Weezer
Voices from the Past - Ginkgo Garden
Letters from Earth - Gingkgo Garden
No Ordinary Girl - Indiana Evans or Kate Alexa
Edge of the Ocean - Ivy
Like a Waterfall - Jes
A Salty Piece of Land - Jimmy Buffett
Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
See Me Here - Orion
Shiny Happy People - REM
Guetho A Liso - Servais Liso
Crystal - Stevie Nicks
Fragile - Sting
In Sunlight - Tina Malia
Akwaba - Tya

Geez, didn't mean to list so many (and believe me, there are more), but there are so many good songs...some ethereal, some tropical, some trancy-dancy...just depends on mer-mood I guess :)

Some great music and videos on here!

Thought I'd add a couple to the mix (even though this is not a super recent thread).

Come Undone by Duran Duran - not truly featuring mermaids per se, but the underwater images have always reminded me of mermaids and the music has a watery quality to it

Low C by Supergrass - this video is played before the performances at Weeki Wachee and was filmed there :)

I'm glad I kept searching, I wanted to find a thread like this. I love how many different kinds of music are posted here. I have quite a few songs I keep on a playlist titled Siren Songs. They're either about mermaids, or I like to think they are, or are very sea related. My favorite music is from the 20s-50s, so most of mine are vintage. I'll share a few.

Wow! This is the best thread ever! I was just looking for more mermaid songs to add to my playlist. Right now, I'm totally obsessed with Metric's "Breathing Underwater" from their Synthetica album. http://ilovemetric.com/music/

Actually to me, that album has a "mermaid feel" to it. The whole thing is about accepting who you are (the good and bad), growing up (but still staying young) etc. I found the album to be quite freeing. There's a "let go" feeling to the album. But mermaids be warned, the first 15 seconds drops the f-bomb. So for those that are easily offended, avoid the album (but listen to Breathing Underwater, it's clean).

FFor more ethereal sound but not over sampled, try out Anuna.ie - some great sounds especially from their invocation and earlier cd's. Deuter has a great "silence sea" album which iis more of ambient sea sound. Someone already mentioned Mckennit, Conjure one, delerium etc. Les Mills often choose excellent tracks for Their Body Balance CDs. Great for flexability and zoning out.

I can't believe I forgot about these guys til now. Actually, yes I can. Gah, dissociative disorders are far more annoying after recovery than before. Anyway, The Mermen.

http://www.mermen.net/

The Mermen. They describe themselves (I've seen on their link via Google) as psychadelic instrumental ocean music. However, I'd have classified them as instrumental surf rock.

Okay, IN LOVE with MERMEN! They are fabulous! :)

The most mermaid-ish song I've ever heard so far is Hayley Westenra's "Prayer" for the game "Endless Ocean". I've never played that game, but I'm a big fan of Hayley :) Here it is...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STP44iU9EpI

And yesterday I listened to "Quanta Qualia" by her also! I love the high notes, I can't resist singing along when I hear it!
The lyrics are short and simple:

Anima mea (my soul)
Mane! (Wait!)
Quanta Qualia (how great and how wonderful)
Conventus gaudia (the joys of the meeting)
Erunt. (will be)

It's like how a mer-meeting would sound to me XD

Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you:
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you

One of my favorite games is Primal. It's about a woman named Jen who falls into a coma after being attacked by the demon who kidnapped her boyfriend. While in the coma her spirit is able to travel to different demon worlds to try and save him, but to survive there she has to transform into a half demon form. One of the realms, Aquis, is underwater, so Jen becomes half Undine. She doesn't grow a tail, but she gets some interesting fins and gills. Anyway, the entire game soundtrack is beautiful, but here are a few of the songs from Aquis.

I keep mine in two lists- I label them Siren Songs and Vintage Siren Songs, for songs recorded prior to 1970. They're my most played lists, for sure. I also have Howl for werewolf songs, Blood suckers for vampire music. And some of those fit into mermaid music, too.

Like this. Because of how I see mermaids, my mersona, and the effect of the moon, this to me speaks both to werewolf lore and mermaids. It was clearly written about werewolves, but I hear mermaid anguish in there. lol

Yeah, I decided no to go with underwater player with earplugs. I've read reviews, and they just don't stay in and tend to have not so great sound quality underwater. Plus more parts = more places for it to break.

I love my Finis Swimp3 player! They've been making them for at least 10 years, so they've got it down. It conducts the sound through your bones into your ear drum, so underwater the sound is SO clear! Plus, remember if you use "mermaid20" on the Finis website at checkout, you get 20% off :)

My swimp3 has about had it, after 5 years of mermaid abuse :P But Finis has a trade in program for them where if you want to trade your old one in for a new one they only charge $75. So that is TOTALLY happening soon!

I thought of posting this after posting about why I named my tail Ruto. I thought about naming her Rutela, after the Zora Queen- but I figured Ruto was a perfect match: my tail is blue and beautiful, I have to carry it everywhere, it's high maintenance, clingy, and it's sassy with me, lol! But as is the case with Princess Ruto, totally worth it ;) Anyhow, here's Rutela's theme (aka the Serenade of Water from OOT). :)

I'm not sure if this counts or not. It's a song from a videogame that just came out.

This music is played during the part when the Fable of the little mermaid is dancing.

It feels like a watery song to me and I enjoy listening to it a lot.

Bursting through a blood red sky
A slow landslide
And the world I’ve left behind
It’s enough to lose your head
Disappear and not return again

When I fall to my feet
Wearing my heart on my sleeve
All I see just don’t make sense
You are the port of my call
You shot and leaving me raw
Now I know you’re amazing
Cuz all I need is the love you breathe
Put your lips on me
And I can live underwater

Flying through a bright blue sky
With a space boy high
From the world I’ve left behind
It’s enough to lose my head
Disappear and not return again

Underwater, we could live underwater
With your love I can breathe
I can breathe underwater

Mermaid of Galloway is a wonderful, spooky song by Scottish folksinger, Emily Smith. The lyrics are in Scottish brogue, so it's a bit hard to understand, but a nifty song! I couldn't find any easy links online but you can listen to a preview on itunes or get it on Pandora.

I ended up making a playlist on Spotify called 'Mermaiding'.
They are songs that remind me of, or trigger my imagination over mermaids and the sea. Some tracks are upbeat, some mellow and I like to listen to this while I'm sewing. Artists include Goldfrapp, Cocteau Twins, Agnes Obel, Stranded Mermaid, Lana Del Rey, Beck, Faith & The Muse, ...
Hopefully the link works. I'll keep adding to it as I go, enjoy :)

Children's music! The album combines children singing mostly on key with recorded animal sounds and is entirely about the oceans and sea life. I grew up listening to this album on cassette and I adored it. I'm so happy that it is still around and easily available. I might even buy it on itunes.

I don't have a mermaid playlist, but I'm looking for good songs to sing while mermaiding, like when taking a break but still tailed. I definitely like the idea of using sea songs/shanties heavily but I'm sad to admit I don't know many. So far all I've got are "Spanish Ladies," "What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor" and "The Captain's Mate" (thank you Ren Faire and elementary school choir.) I'd like to avoid super depressing stuff like ships sinking and everyone drowning. Do not talk to me about "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald," please, it seriously gives me the creeps.

I suppose this could count as well, sort of. "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate" by the Arrogant Worms. It is fun and easy to sing, more for an adult audience simply because most of the subject matter will be lost on kids. I should know, I first heard it as a kid and all I got out of it was yay pirates!

An older song, it's from 2004. I hear mer in this. Watching Over You by Seabound

From the ice, the blinding white
A schooner's gliding through the night
Angry sea, we sail alone
At last I'm going home

I'm going home

Phantoms lured me off my course
Tried to kill the man I was
You sent a guiding light
Lead me to my lavish bride

To the crag that braves the tide
To the beacon in the night
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
To the souls that crouch in fear
To the ghosts that disappear
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you

To the crag that braves the tide
To the beacon in the night
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you
To the souls that crouch in fear
Your ghosts will disappear
I trust in you (and)
I'm watching over you

Seasons change, this time for good
Be this message understood
You're the house I occupy
You're the only reason why

I'm still alive

To me the song sounds very dark and reminds me of the ocean at night, or being (you guessed it) in very deep water. There are very few lyrics which I think suits creatures who spend most of their time under the waves and probably wouldn't speak much. Also, the lyric "This would be a pure disaster, life spent on the surface for you. I need the waves, the deep escape..." definitely speaks to my mersona, whose loyalty is to the sea alone and would break hearts at the drop of a shell when she hears the waves calling.

Hope you guys like it! :mermaid kiss:

Not at all. Every mer is their own mer, and there is no one way to be, or one music to listen to. This thread is proof of that.

The woman who is known as the lead singer for darkwave band Faith and the Muse has the most lovely solo projects out... this one is called Naiades (http://www.monicarichards.com/naiades.htm). I'm in love with the whole thing, but here is one of the most beautiful songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsrlOFtUuhc

Lyrics below. (Incidentally, they remind me of the mermaids I write.)

I was sinking.
Long have I dwelt o'er the
Realm of the Drowning Man
Still I was empty...
Long have they been dashed against my shores
Still I was waiting...
And to my wat'ry depths they sadly sank
And I was sinking.
I put them all to sleep
One touch of my voice
Then dead at my feet
It was nothing...
In the early hours
A grey dawn misty morn
The turning tide
Surveyed with flooding eyes
The sky breaking through
The morning silent
And yet I hear the sound
The faintest beat
Of heart that sank itself
Beneath my waves
There was something...
I realize I'm nothing like my kind
Your heart is still beating
Keep your heart alive I'm almost there
Keep your heart alive and I'll bring you home
You better sing out strong
You've got a voice that melts the glaciers down.
Keep your heart alive I'm almost there
Keep yourself alive and I'll bring you home

Song of Marina from the 1975 "The Little Mermaid" animation, but for me only in hungarian: the lyrics translations are just sg beautiful :) First I saw the 'red haired mermaid' in the kindergarden and I told my mom I want it, so she bought one video forme, the 'yellow haired'.. At the end of it, she couldn't know how to calm me down coz I was crying insanely and I hated and was sobbing "I want the red haaa-ireeeed" lol, but I matured and now I value it more :)

Ocean by Lush

https://youtu.be/nDDkpuQMBJ8

Come with meInto a cool blue stream
Bleed into oceans green
Lips open wide
Drinking the tide
Reach for me
Here where the ocean sea
Melts and you sink with me
Deeper inside
I'll make you mine

Take me down
Down where their voices drown
Down where the only sound
Echoes for me
Floating away
Under the waves
Kiss me again
You'll tell me when
Salt on my lips
Cool fingertips
Under the sea

Stay here with me

OMG, we made a playlist with siren songs for our upcoming board game (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdNJk0J0F5XHV0CvJpt1Vq7bFegXLgnxN) and we totally should add some gems from this thread!

(It's a collaborative YouTube playlist, so feel free to add your favorites!)

Exotica offers a lot of music that can put one in the mind of being in a movie made in the 50s-60s, in exotic locations, often with a tropical influence. This is one my favorites. (It can be a problematic genre, due to having started in an era full of cluelessness about cultural issues. But there is enough of it that you can take what you like and leave out anything that bothers you. It's up to you. That said:)

Les Baxter - Jewels of the Sea 1961

YouTube has this playlist, but if you have Spotify, you can find this album in full under his name. If you like it, also look for Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, and a exotica called Creepxotica.

Hi. I’ve search in my metal songs what was fitting the idea of mermaid music and ends up with this playlist of 30 songs from ten differents metal « subgenre » listed from the most lightly and palatable for mainstream audience to the more heavy and extreme or at least marginal kind of metal, lot of good stuff here that as far as i can tell wasnt posted here yet, so here we go :

First Category : « Disney » Metal (not a real metal genre but more a way to talk about metal cover from Disney or disney like music)
1) Poor Unfortunate Soul Metal Cover by Jonathan Young, he manages to go very badass in it somehow : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwibwNnKxJLqAhXQxIUKHVCfCwsQyCkwAHoECAoQB A&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D3f 8hnCc_r5k&usg=AOvVaw0eNwhlxtVfATFWdkBWENoO
2) He s a Pirate Metal Cover Pirate of the Carraibean Theme : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjd96vCxZLqAhWvyoUKHbxEDDwQtwIwAHoECAMQA Q&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DFc l8dGKrv-w&usg=AOvVaw03fJJrF0yWU5GOlJ5YrxbH
3) Aquaman AMV on Skillet Legendary music (ok the movie is not Disney but it still have that colorful famille entertainment vibe plus this AMV definitively proves a mer themed action movie with a metal soundtrack cool be epic : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiXgKOuxpLqAhXFxYUKHa38BNYQyCkwAHoECAoQB A&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D1R wS8wTK2M4&usg=AOvVaw3Gxp5h8kncN1uaHoYxaNdm

Second Category : Symphonic Metal (Metal more melodic than usual with soft voices often from women vocalists Nightwish like)
4) Nightwish The Siren (well of course) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwixnYnzyJLqAhUS1BoKHY7ACM8QwqsBMAN6BAgME AQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D6s cMN_pR80I&usg=AOvVaw04rCZQpJrinULVwsAUfAj9 (Turn Loose The Mermaids another song on this topic from the same band is good too)
5) Visions of Atlantis Return to Lemuria : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwix-IDKypLqAhXtzIUKHbFTA0YQwqsBMAR6BAgLEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D4t JAdUahyTA&usg=AOvVaw1vpwaJEiIS3vouz2K2ovXj

8) Caliban The Ocean’s Heart (feat Alissa White-Gluz à singer well known for her growls in Arch Enemy but hear she proves she can clear sing like a boss also, this song only have a brief mention of Mermaids and is more a ecology song against whale killings but i think it s still fit) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj89_r2z5LqAhUKuRoKHZMdC00QyCkwAHoECBIQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dzu kCw8OQXoQ&usg=AOvVaw0YL0jcYFYMIaFxEScPfn8_
9) Parkway Driven (The Siren Song s) its a Song which use a Siren metaphora to tell the story of a prostitute dying from drug addiction, one friend also pretends that it refers to some ancient lore about Mermaids feeling their Death coming calling pirate to end their life with dignity in a ritual between euthanasia and suicide of honor, i never found said lore anywhere so maybe he totally invented it to tease me but his story was so brutal now i cant hear this song without having his tale in mind : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiVvJG80ZLqAhUCy4UKHUu1AV0QyCkwAHoECBEQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DO6 wEHzdQzoc&usg=AOvVaw31Et2H_ju3aGy-JzDu1-hc

10) Children of The Sea Black Sabbath https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiHidHe1pLqAhWj4IUKHf87BIAQyCkwAHoECBMQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dc2 Bdsr7CwBI&usg=AOvVaw2JP87lUNmT6o02z4rMxW_H
11) Iron Maiden Rime Of The Ancient Mariner : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjs9fmy2JLqAhVNLBoKHaQCBQ0QwqsBMAJ6BAgKE AQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNA 2cGy_iDTk&usg=AOvVaw1AOqbabrM7Kvq6O7rZFRX7
12) Évier Metal Ultra Vomit (a very dumb Heavy metal parody song loaded with watery word-pun probably the most far off of the mermaid them of this playlist but i just couldnt resist) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjhgp-S3JLqAhVFOhoKHTGaC8EQyCkwAHoECBEQBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dc1 kNwDfBrLY&usg=AOvVaw19KHqy_UmNJQwxxHZv5y2Y

Fifth Category : Pirate Metal (Its a subgenre of folk métal, metal inspired by ancient pirate songs the whole genre is sea themed and loaded with thousands of cool metal song about sea pirates but here i will only post the very few pirate metal songs that i know that are near to the mermaid theme or at the very least themed around sea ladies) :
13) Red Flag Crew Mermaids : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwi5xvb335LqAhUGHxoKHVawBt8QyCkwAHoECBAQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dav eHwCRZnHI&usg=AOvVaw3-fUohMAQ9jxp0qiyfgrkJ
14) Toter Fisch Mami Wata : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj13vGa4pLqAhUyyYUKHZPNDYMQyCkwAHoECBEQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjT vu7AdpgeY&usg=AOvVaw1sKG7EpzBOaYJ94p7wekom
15) Grainne Mhaol, Queen Of Pirates Miracle Of Sound (Irish Pirate Metal), a song in honor of a woman who maybe was not a mermaid but most certainly was queen of the sea i guess it s can fit : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjuhquD5JLqAhVux4UKHQzhAo4QyCkwAHoECBIQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DiO afalF22kI&usg=AOvVaw0HWAywMvMXqmnps5RptoUp

Sixth Category Progressive Metal (Metal with prog rock influence so slow rythm, high technicallity and songs that are very instrumental) :

16) Liquid Eternity Ayreon (tell a scifi story about a aquatic alien specie which has reach immortality with technologue but became dependent on machines and start to have their emotions and vital energy decreased by that the song is about them longing back for their mortality :https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjwlY_05pLqAhUlyIUKHQngC9wQyCkwAHoECBIQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7g 6ko7ZOtxA&usg=AOvVaw3g0rbDiaz5HsZWr9pRhjWF

The whole album 01011001 (tel:01011001) is about the story of this specie, over all it s a good one and Ayreon is a really solid impressive prog metal band.

17) We are Seagull-Men Legend of Seagull-Men (another sci fi songs, well here sci fi themed band, this Time about radioactive mutant seagull-men, well it s a bit far off but the oldest mermaid mythes where about half human half seabirds so that s still fit if i go with a very large acceptation of what is mermaid themed song well and band) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwi6luXF6pLqAhVJzIUKHWY4CWYQyCkwAHoECBEQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D-lNqicJOvR8&usg=AOvVaw1l_04D_lhFH97z0h19F0U9

18) Haken Aquarium (their whole Aquarius album which this song comestible from is mermaid themed) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwirifrm65LqAhXNx4UKHSG5CGQQyCkwAHoECBIQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTQ XfOiNwUrU&usg=AOvVaw2KNvHWvjtlNoEsT-CpJnrP

Seventh Category : Power Metal (Metal songs with fait rythm, powerful voices, melodic tone, high inspiration from heroic Fantasy very often well over all coule as well have been called epic metal that s the idea, sure logs of it is about fire and dragons do trying to find watery mermaid themed power metal is like trying to find the reverse of what mist people sek and expect with this subgenre but i still manage to found some cool power metal mermaid songs) :

19) Sorcerer : Sirens : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiP8trG75LqAhWmz4UKHb_zDqIQyCkwAHoECBIQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlS rCwjtp5GY&usg=AOvVaw0njF1VaeYFdCJ8NjG2NTSu

20) Vision Divine, Mermaids for their Moons : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjhxfTR8ZLqAhWPxYUKHfj-ARYQyCkwAHoECBIQBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjH Ls6B6-7R4&usg=AOvVaw0KnbxSLG5qTUg1R8ffChFb

Eight Category : Doom Metal (Metal with slow rythm, grave often solemn tone, heavy sounds, often deep voices and lyrics that more often than not give a feel of despair and being well doomed that where the name combes from i guess, i have found some ocean themed Doom Metal that can go well with mermaid idea) :

22) Ahab (ocean themed band inspired by the story of the litterary character of same name), The Divinity Of The Oceans : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwir9sbG95LqAhUHYxoKHYVdCz8QwqsBMAN6BAgUE AQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dvk iu0cWboyc&usg=AOvVaw2wJ3Fuok0qlXYsSIlOacrX

The first post seem to start being too long so i post the end of the list here :

23) Giant Squid (another sea themed doom metal band), Versus The Sirens : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjuu7Gf-pLqAhWtxYUKHVtCBbYQyCkwAHoECBEQBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D2P ovmYjR-eA&usg=AOvVaw1oD3hItFnxIbi2NCrOlEZ (https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjuu7Gf-pLqAhWtxYUKHVtCBbYQyCkwAHoECBEQBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D2P ovmYjR-eA&usg=AOvVaw1oD3hItFnxIbi2NCrOlEZf)

24) Sea Witch (yes another, and a last doom metal band sea themed), The Stormrider : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjqp_W1gpPqAhUPaBoKHbYNC7sQyCkwAHoECBAQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DaU woHQRKuD0&usg=AOvVaw0EmZ8h5RxWGpBUc-fhhQfi

Ninth Category : Death Metal (very distorted sound, lot of growled songs, very heavy, very violent and yes i found mermaid compatible songs of this kind, proof if ever needed that if something exist it s some where on Internet) :

25) Sulphur Aeon, Swallowed by the Ocean s Tide (about the Rise of Cthulhu but can be uses for and scary beast from under the sea so for horrific monster mermaid why not?) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7qA75ET5e0

26) Dagoba, Poseidon (more about a boat name this way than the marine god but still very good sea themed Death metal song) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjQiIDrjJPqAhVvBWMBHSdpAz0QtwIwAnoECAIQA Q&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dnv xH3hj3z38&usg=AOvVaw0eJzPxShOibcD3tnRCClcu

27) Atlantis Chronicles (as their name give a hint to they are a sea themed Death metal band, a pretty solid one with that), Ten Miles Underwater : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj2ysGSjpPqAhUJy4UKHUztBZwQtwIwAHoECAAQA Q&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DhO K-_MpPNRQ&usg=AOvVaw2jevPZ-p77FDQLih_1Bim_

Tenth and last Category : Black Metal (agressive sounds, dark atmosphere, theme often dark and sometimes gore, brutal in the voice and tone well most often at least, still I have found some good black metal songs that are mermaid themed)

28) Astarte, Sirens (this is a all female fronted greek black metal band so good they scares me, off course they must had a mermaid song) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjFyJyvoJPqAhWyxYUKHft1BIUQwqsBMAJ6BAgVE Ak&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DO0 qPhzDt7xo&usg=AOvVaw0qrOoiPml-G58DTJBpmXQ1

29) Lek, Mermaids (it s a song about some women metaphorically compared to mermaids because they are extremely beautiful on the outside but are void of all that we call humanity in that they have no feelings and are rotten inside took the mermaid as a feminine monster road approach and make a good music with that even tough I understand next to nothing of lyrics I must admit) : https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjCs7b1opPqAhWFzYUKHdmlAAAQyCkwAHoECBAQB w&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNq OlK3PqH_I&usg=AOvVaw1YNFNVuMO0cu2ZpknygW6Q

30) Deep-Pression, Sirens, it s the first track of their excellent sea themed album Endless Sea you can hear there : https://deep-pression.bandcamp.com/album/an-endless-sea-5th-album, the song Sirens play on the two meanings of this word both being about mermaids and about sirens of hospital ambulance that kind of siren 🚨, it is a DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, a sub family of black metal with depression and suicide
as the main themes therefore slower, less aggressive, more melancholic, despaired and atmospheric than most black metal songs often with a lot of yellings expressing inner suffering) song so when I hear the beginning of the album it makes me think of someone who would have tried kill himself and hear the hospital sirens of the medics caming for him and starts to hallucinate about Mermaids drowning him in the abyss. I know DSBM is controversial but I think they are lot of talented musicians in it and Deep-Pression are some of the best.

Bonus : They are not pure black metal but an inclassable band with lot of influences of mainly both black metal and alternative soft rock like My Bloody Valentine and definitively more sound like the latter but Alcest is a very good band and they have a mermaid themed album Écailles de Lune is very good for anyone who like mermaids and dreamy atmospheric UFO kind of album just as solar as they are melancholic and defying description just as must as they defy musical genre classification, I highly recommend this if you have a taste for that kind of stuff : https://alcest.bandcamp.com/album/cailles-de-lune.

Well the end and hope you had a good Music Day!

Thanks so much for this list!! It may not be much, but I've always liked Go Into The Water by Deathklok. Metalocalypse was a funny show and the songs we're excellent to me. Especially this song! Thanks again for the list! I have some non metal songs, like Sirens Of The Sea from Oceanlab! :)

So many good songs on here! I love instrumentals, sea shanties, and Celtic music! I saw Claire de lune was mentioned, and I absolutely love it. A few of my other favorites on my mermaid playlist include:

River Flows In You by Yiruma
Wellerman by Nathan Evans
Teir Abhaile Riu by Celtic Woman
The Goonies 'r' Good Enough by Cyndi Lauper
Waves by Mr. Probz & Robin Schulz
Hawaiian Roller Coster Ride and He Mele No Lilo from the Lilo & Stitch Soundtrack
Once Upon a Time in Africa from by Hans Zimmer
Swim by Alec Benjamin
Also... Girls Chase Boys by Ingrid Michaelson kinda gives me mermaid vibes. I think it's because of the ahahahah's...
I also have some Studio Ghibli music and lots from the Legend of Zelda (specifically the Windwaker). It's very calming and liberating.

I also have a Siren Songs playlist that include songs from Pirates of the Caribbean like My Jolly Sailor Bold, He's a Pirate, Davy Jones, Hoist the Colors, Mermaids, Drink Up Me Hearties Yo Ho, and On Stranger Tides.
I also have Deep Down by Lexie Liu included (most of it is in Chinese, but it is absolutely gorgeous).

Hi for celtic music i have a few french ones from Bretagne which are about mermaids :

Nolwen Leroy, Sixième continent (ecological song against plastic in the oceans) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIaowTxoUTc
