Hi all :)

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.

Well I have a little problem, or well its big to me.
In the past I have been a very overweight girl, lost a lot of weight 9-10 years ago, and due to my massive weightloss I got at tummy operation to remove the excess skin.
BUT even that I have had this surgery, I still have some skin, that Im sad about.
You know when you sit down, and the pants are a little to small, then my skin wraps up.
Im so sad about this, but I have talked with doctors and trainers and they say I can do nothing about the skin myself, only surgery again, and I cant afford that.

SO my big big question is. Are silicone tails very very fit ? Can you have one a little bigger, or do they then just fall of me.
And also fabric tails with a monofin, will there fall of me in the water.

It might seems a little weird to think so much about this, but Im at the point where I dont dare to save up for a silicone tail, even though it is my biggest dream.

Hope someone culd give me a heads up on what I can do, or dont do.

Give a little hope to a sad dreamer.

And thanks for reading, hope some of it makes sense, and that my spelling is alright.

The tails themselves are custom made to your measurements (for the most part unless you buy used) so they should fit right around any excess skin you have on your legs. I don't believe you would have any problem at all. :)

Ditto Blaze, you should be able to get a tail to fit you perfectly, done to your measurements! :)

Thanks for your reply [emoji6] but the skin is on my tommy, so I'm mostly concered if a tail is tight around my waist [emoji4]

If you want, you can also ask for a waist that is higher up on your body. I really like those tails because it gives fore freedom to do really sweet waistline colours and things. Another thing you can do (and this might sound really stupid) is use body tape for swimwear. It's normally used to pull waist flab around to the back to make it look smaller, or to push 'the girls' a little closer together. If you want to try that, you can use it to conceal what you want. I'm sure you will have NO problem with a silicone tail.

Ugh tummy rolls are my WORST problem with my spandex tail. I know with silicone tails you can have them made a little higher on the waist to keep everything in check. Good luck!

I actually cannot tell you how much I love high-waisted tails. I think they are so elegant, and they can contour to your body more, giving more shape, and it adds for more design options.

First, I want to say: You are a beautiful woman, so don't obsess about your flaws! Almost all real women have extra belly skin. Why must we hide everything that's real and natural about our bodies?

End of lecture.

I have also been thinking of putting together a mermaid costume that covers my tummy, mostly because I am allergic to sun rays, and that belly skin is really vulnerable! So the high waisted tail is one option, but an easier and less costly option would be to make a mermaid top that covers the tummy and is tucked into the tail. A spandex swimsuit top covered in sequins would be lovely!

And BTW, I'm thin, but I have extra skin on my belly, too. (I'm nearly 60 years old.) Deal with it, world!

I'm going to throw my two cents in here as someone who does not have the tautest of stomachs or the tiniest of hips. I had my tail made high waisted for that reason. It comes all the way up to my belly button; there's no reason you can't get one to that level or even higher. I'm kind of hoping to have a full bust covering tail some day (like the mermaids from Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates- anyone remember that?)

I've found that the silicone sticks to the skin and holds it in place very well. It acts essentially as a giant girdle. I do have a little bit of a muffin top, where some skin pudges out over the top of the tail, but I ordered my tail very, very snug on purpose, and tbh I've gained a little weight since then. When I'm feeling really self conscious I'll wear a tank top or short dress instead of a bikini top. The rest of the time, who the hell cares? :)

Hope that helps!

PearlieMae - just resent my mail to you, there was a delivery error :)

And thanks for your other replys :)

Google really like to tease me with dress pictures when I search for high waisted mermaid tails o.O

I have tried full body tails, high waisted tails, and tails that sit right on your hip. and in the end, it only matters what you're comfortable with. no one is going to look at a mermaid and say she's fat (or he, not to be sexist). they're going to look and say "That took a lot of courage to do something so awesome" (or crazy. I've heard that one too). if you're comfy with a low sitting tail, or you feel better having a tail up to your ribs or higher, fact is, you're a mermaid (or merman). you're not fat, you don't have belly rolls, and there's nothing you have to hide. you're beautiful just the way you come, however you come. as long as you're comfy in your skin, you are amazing.

-ANYONE- can wear a tail regaurdless of rolls, excess skin, flab, flub, or what have you. Need proof?

*Holds big arrow sign pointing to herself.*

AND you can look awesome doing it.

Here is my rolled tummy while I was at an event recently:
