I just cranked out this last minute sequin tail for an event this Sunday! No, I didn't forget about the event this time. I actually had a different tail planned until.....
....I got a text message from one of the head crew members telling me that the event that I have to be at this coming Sunday is requesting an "Ariel" character and since my tail skirt is in need of some much needed repairs, I quickly scavenged threw my materials to see what I can come up with on such short notice....again. :eye twitch:
:gah:
I literally looked at Pirate Hubby and said "Oh gawd, here we go again!" and his reply was "You've worked under worse pressure than this." Granted this tail is not going to be overly detailed as my 4th tail was but still....
And now onto pics! Here's the fabric...

A pic of the fabric with my fabric clam shell bra to see how well it would go...

A close up...

And almost finished.

I'm currently working on this, which has obviously jumped ahead of the rest of the costumes due to it HAS be done by Sunday, 3 other tails AND a mermaid cross over themed dress!
Argh! I think I just burst a vein in my forehead.

Thanks! It is quite pretty even though I now have sequins all over the place from cutting it! Ack!
This last minute stuff is driving me up a wall though. Nothing is more irritating than having someone screw up your plans and then having to put things on hold to scramble to get things done on time.

Finished up the adjustments and now I just need to sew up the waist area and attach velcro along the bottom of the fluke.

Also for the record, due to the sequin mesh fabric being VERY see threw, I made an inside tail however if you look very carefully at the fluke you will see that it does not cover the entire mono. The inside tail literally just snaps together in the middle of the fluke. Yes that is my reshaped mahina inside there and since the mahina is green in color, the sequin mesh fabric is the only thing covering the fluke part and blends in quite nicely.
Did that make sense? I tried to explain it as best as I could. Eep!
I also managed to grab a few videos!

Sin, did you strip the sequins off of the seam allowance area before sewing the tail together?

LOL! Is there a thread that has a MerNetwork Vocabulary because if not there totally should be one with all the groovy cool mer-words we all use. ;p

The sequin fabric is not easy to work with but I did the best I could. There was lots of cursing at one point. :eye twitch:

Event did not close down due to the weather and people were still attending it regardless. As you can see I had my parasol (which survived the down pours, thank heavens!) and I had a few kids come up to me in the rain and say to me....
"Hey! You're a mermaid! Why do you have an umbrella?"
My reply....
"I'm from the salty water of the sea. I'm allergic to FRESH water, silly!"
I got the..."Oooh. That's right!" as a response. hehehe
On to the next event!

Can you swim in it? When I was researching making my own tail I found a lot of the sequined fabrics weren't made of the right material and I was told they would weight me down.
