Omg y'all I finally found out to make webbed fingers without using silicone or having it be temporary. It was made by lithefider.tumblr

1.) Trace your hand on a piece of paper, fingers spread wide. Draw on where you want the webbing. Cut it out (and around the webbing line).

2.) Trace onto 4 WAY STRETCH SPANDEX, and cut out leaving plenty of seam allowance (you’ll be trimming them later - leave like 1.5 inch all around, it’ll be easier to sew.). Pin to more spandex and cut out the back (you don’t have to trace it twice, and you’ll be trimming it anyway so you don’t have to be precise on the cutting out). Leave it pinned together so it doesn’t slip while sewing.

3.) Sew about on the lines from your tracing. Sew using normal good thread and a stretch stitch and a stretch needle. Give it some extra, like sew about 2 millimeters outside the lines. I’d double sew it myself, for strength. If you want a frill sew it into the arm seam.

4.) Invert, and you’ll end up with a webbed glove with no finger dividers.

5.) Now cut out your actual hand from your paper tracing (IE cut off the webbing) then trace the finger lines onto the outside of your inverted spandex webbed hand.

6.) Sew the finger lines one at a time, on the outside.

7.) You’ll end up with this:

Ta da!

Airbrush for pretty colors if you like. Airbrush it while it is being worn BY YOU OR ANOTHER, you should paint it while it is stretched. If you have no airbrush I recommend hand painting with Dye-na-flow paints.

Have fun!

I know right! I'm going to try to head to Walmart later tonight to see if I can find fabric to match my skin tone. If not I'm definitely starting these this weekend

That's an awesome-looking design, Jukumerboii. As a kid, I used to swim around fantasising about having webbed hands like those. :)

That looks so freakin' awesome!

Tights/footed leggings work for this, too.

I've been wondering how I could do something like this! I'll definitely keep this in mind for a later tail :3

I saw something on pinterest about webbed fingers using panty hose. Looked like this

Thanks for posting!

I still need diving gloves (had to return several pairs because they stank of toxins and made me break out in a rash for just trying them on for 3 seconds), and I might just as well make webbed ones.

That's a great tutorial, I'll start making mine asap ;)

I made mine matching my shark tail (dark on the upside, white on the downside).
Will go amazing with a blue diving suit as well.

They do give propulsion.
Not spectacularly of course, as they're spandex (you get better results with those plastic devices), however I could use my hands normally to fiddle around with my equipment, and only spread the fingers when pushing water, which is so much more natural and comfortable than having your fingers in a forced split position.

So, did a quick proof of concept with some leftover swimsuit fabric. It worked out well, and the method is easier than anticipated. Just need to pick a more suitable stitch (zigzag is elastic, but the seam gets too broad for my liking, there has to be a better one) and give a little more room at the wrist area, where the test piece got a little too tight for comfort. But that's what test pieces are for ;)

The procedure is super easy and gives impressive results. Thanks again for sharing!

P.S.: Pictures will follow as soon as I get Tapatalk to process them...

I used a straight stitch, and leftover swimsuit fabric :)
Pretty satisfied with the result.

Maybe I'll make some more in other colours!

This is amazing! I was wondering how to go about doing this for a short film project involving one of the mermaids in my pod. c: Many thanks!

Don't suppose you'd be willing to take orders? Some of us aren't as skilled/crafty at making these sorts of things.

I personally didn't make them. But the girl who did is making me a pair because, i to, can NOT sew to save mi life lol.

Hahaha, I completely know that feeling. If she ever wants to take on a customer or two, I'm definitely interested in obtaining a pair from her!
