No, but does it have to be if it's probably only in one scene?

no it looks like she's pretending to be a professional mermaid so it's not like she's trying to look like a "real" mermaid

Chances are it was supposed to look like a half crappy costume...for the character. (Glad I had the sound off)

Well, for an update I shall mention that Jane the Virgin appeared in the TV Guide featurette issue with Frozen's Anna and Elsa from Once Upon A Time on the cover, and for reasons unknown the picture they used was of her as a mermaid!

I assume that TV Guide chose this shot because it was an eye-catching pic, for all they had to say about the show was that it dropped to the bottom of the "intend to watch" list due to its title. Yes, in the Middle Ages Joan of Arc was quite successful in her mission in part because she referred to herself as "Joan the Maiden/Virgin", yet nowadays people can't seem to handle the idea of a woman who won't put out with no strings (such as marriage) attached....

Ahem. Anyway, as much as I have to say on the subject as a Roman Catholic Carmelite Aspirant, I shall instead merely mention the mermaiding here. The tail is mildly drab (although the colour isn't too bad), with a grid-like scale pattern and a fluke which doesn't suggest much of a monofin/swimmable nature, but what annoyed me most was that Jane said she couldn't believe she "had to do this." That is not the mark of a professional mermaid; though in the character's defense I shall draw attention to the bottle of what appears to be an alcoholic beverage in her hand. If she is somehow trying to sell that, then it is not the kind of mermaid gig for which I would be up!

I'm curious. Even though in the back of my mind I couldn't stop thinking about how much trouble the doctor should be in.
