So I've had a plan in the works for a neoprene tail. I finally got the money to buy the supplies to make my matching top first! That way I can train in my monofin in style~
First what I did was take a strapless bra and paint it, then cut off the straps. The center is held together by strong fishing line woven around itself so it'll look invisible in the water!

Then I sewed on the netting for the straps:

The current progress I'm at is the plants have been sewn in place:

After each step I'll be taking a picture with my phone, that way you all can see step by step! :D

WOW. Not bad. Mermaids need to figure out the best way to make a nice top that matches. There are multiple ways, like using fishing net, seaweed, seashells, or silicone to make them look like a scale bra. Either way, nice idea.

Sorry about the lack of updates! Thank you everyone for the compliments!
I finished the top at one in the morning last night, so I have the top already decorated with shells, fake pearls, shell beads, and shark teeth!
I apologize for the poor quality phone photos from work! I work in a small computer repair shop and my boss has been helping me raise up the money for my tail.

awesome! I do that fishing line thing with my jewelry and I like to wear hooks and lures too. (part of my allure collection)
the texture and size of all the marks painted on the top look wonderful! Can't wait to see your lovely tail. =)

Just posting on here to talk about the final test of making my top: if it holds up in the water.

I wore it to my local pool yesterday and it held up perfectly! I'd reinforced the back of the fishing line where it attaches to the cups with e6000 to make sure nothing would come undone. The top had very little drag that I noticed and didn't hinder my movement at all! Two or three pearls did come off- but upon closer inspection I noticed they weren't that well bonded to the top to begin with. So for those of you who are gluing things to your tops make sure they're glued on nicely! I didn't lose any shark teeth which was a relief.
I'd say my top adventure was a success!
