OH MY GOSH A POKEMON TOPIC THIS SHIT IS MY JAAAAMMM

Hi I'm Tieri and I goddamn love Pokémon and have been obsessed since 1998. I haven't figured out a mer-themed team yet because for some reason I've always been drawn way more to fire types (my top faves being Ponyta/Rapidash, Arcanine, Ninetails and Flareon.)

Though I'm also in love with Vaporeon, for obvious reasons. My mersona would definitely have one! I'm also hoping to save up for a giant Vaporeon plush.

I also currently have a collection of approximately 2,700+ cards, though that's more of a casual hobby thing than a real effort; I know how to play the TCG but mostly I just collect the cards for the wide array of art styles because I'm a huge artsy dorkfish. :T

I have Pokémon X (fun fact, I got it two weeks before drop date between the Games Exchange in my town was the only one in the country to break drop) but I don't remember my Friend Code off the top of my head. I'll dig it up in the morning! :D

So pokemon came out when I was in grade 7 I think. It was pretty big. That was the year my dad got custody of me and I was in transition between leaving with a crazy/neglectful/abusive mom to living with my dad. I couldnt live with my dad yet so I was staying between my grandparents and my aunts. I never bought a single pokemon card. People would give me their doubles and I learned how to trade up from there. I used to draw em, watch em, ship Ash and Misty hahaha, and when Grade 8 came around I saved my money to buy a plushy pikachu. I lived with my dad finally, and I was starting a new school. I thought if I brought pikachu with me I'd be so popular!! Nope. Lol in the new school, pokemon was not popular and I pretty much labelled myself a loser hahaha. But I did make my first best friend and she and I did pokemon (and sailormoon) everything! The internet was only just starting to be a thing in schools back then (we're talking 98-2000) and all we'd do is print off pics and keep scrap books. We also started writing fanfiction but we didnt *know* it was fanfiction because we'd never even heard of anything like that before. And we used to sit in the hall and swap pokemon and sailormoon stories LOL.

The first pokemon game I actually played was yellow. Not for lack of trying. just circumstances made it so. And I managed to fill up that pokedex with every pokemon EXCEPT mew. I've never gotten a mew :(

When I was an adult I found my old pokemon collection. I gave it to a kid I babysat. He cried. :) It was a nice feeling. It was all Gen 1 but I had almost all the holographic cards.

I love Pokemon, and I feel like I've been playing it since it came out. I've got at least one of every cartridge, sometimes double (as with my SoulSilver), and if I love the region I usually have all of them. Like Johto, even though my Gold and Crystal files no longer save and need a new battery. xD;;

I haven't really been playing the new games all that much, I like my pixels, so I'd need to do some digging around to grab my friend code.

Usually my teams are a ghost/fire/poison build, but now you guys have me tempted to make a team fit for a mer.

I LOVE Pokemon. My brother and I have just about every game. He got Y and I got X. I got Sapphire and he got Ruby, stuff like that. He is my pokemon buddy. Sadly, I haven't beaten the elite four in X yet. I'm there, I just haven't beaten them.
I like my teams to be diverse. One water, one fire, one grass or flying, one dragon, one physic, and one dark or fighting.

I've only caught a few. The first one I remember getting was before I really knew what it was (which was hatching a shiny vulpix), and ended up getting bored with that file and restarted without transferring it over to a different game. Since then it's been mostly bird pokemon that end up shiny for me, which is kind of weird, but I've found a shiny poochyena and whismur as well.

Mine have always just been found when I'm not looking for them. I've never had any luck finding them when I'm actively looking for them.
But then I level grind a lot... like if there's a movie on tv, I'll sort of pay attention to the game and go through semi-automatic motions to battle while watching the tv. >.>; I suppose that's when I end up finding a shiny. Although, considering I've been playing this game for about 14+ years, I've only found about six or seven shiny pokemon through that whole time.

I am the biggest Pokemon nerd ever. I have all the games, I have 2 Pokemon tattoos, I plan on getting 2 mermaid tails in the future that look like Dewgong's & Goldeen's tail.

@Raina: The method that I use only works on pokemon you fish for, but it certainly should help! In X and Y the squid pokemon has a special ability called suction cups or sticky cups. Can't remember exactly what it's called. You need this pokemon to start a fishing chain. Put that pokemon in the front of your party. Then go fishing with a rod and don't move from that spot while you fish. Any pokemon you encounter you have to run from or defeat them. Catching them breaks the chain. What the ability does is boost your percentage chance of finding a shiny.
The longer you fish the higher your chance of finding a shiny. I caught my first shiny magikarp after about the 13th one I encountered. It can sometimes take longer but if you persist you're sure to find a shiny!
I've only ever caught shiny Magikarps in Pokemon. However since that's what I aim to do I'm not disappointed in it. :3

My sister and I were afraid of that a long time ago in Emerald with a shiny she caught. They stay shiny forever! Luckily it's not a game glitch, so they're programmed to stay that way. :D

They stay shiny through all evolutions but if you breed them, there's only a very small percentage that the baby will be shiny too. There are ways to breed for shinys though.

Raina, yeah trading back and forth will work because I am attached to some of my legendaries. (I also have a mew from a Soulsilver event)

I have only ever caught one shiny and it was back in original silver. I spent hours trying to get a shiny staryu and ended up finding a Golden Magikarp, which then evolved into a red Garyados and nobody took me seriously.
