Finally back on the forum!

I am officially a vendor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival for the High Seas Adventure Weekend with my shop, SirenTrinkets. There will be a beard competition, tattoo competition, arm-wrestling championship, beer tasting, a perfect pirate contest, and various other activities and forms of entertainment. The Festival is from 10am-7pm rain or shine for many weekends, but I will be there from August 30th-September 1st. I am so excited for this opportunity and would love to see a few of you come out to enjoy a day at the Festival. Huzzah!

I think merbellas has been there in the past not sure if they'll be there again.
The website is advertising the Blue Mermaids as performing this year.
Also says that they're having a mermaid art contest to decorate the mermaid lagoon.
They also have a fairy house contest.

Merbellas haven't been there for a while. I think loads of mermaids have cycled through because the faire asks for too much money from the mers. I've seen a few complaints on fb from several.

Asking the mermaids for money for what?
I would have thought it would be the other way around, the mermaids asking for a raise.

I've seen multiple mers complain that they ask for half the tips the mermaids make. And I know from talking with some of the ones who no longer work there that the pay to begin with is pretty low. I would never let an event or client take half my tips. If I am accepting tips it's to accommodate the fact that the client doesnt pay enough. I'm not going to identify anyone because they posted things on their personal fb but I've seen at least 3 mers from different groups complain about that same thing now.

oh that is annoying.
Most ren fests that I do are volunteer and/or really low pay, but I would be
really upset if they tried to take any part of my tips.
I work with 2 other fairies and we don't even pool tips among our group.
On a good day I can make a lot in tips, but on a slow day I've made only $5 all day.
My contracts always state that we keep any tips.
Not sure we would work anywhere that didn't allow that.

Do you know where you are going to be located in the faire? I'd love to stop by and look at your stuff!!

Half of their tips? Wow that is too much to ask; even 60/40 would be more understandable. Was hoping Raven would be there because I would lovvvvvee to meet her in person. I am just now getting my hundreds of items in the mail to start a mermaid accessory production line for the entire month of August. This will give me the opportunity to start taking new photos of my products because some of them suck. Hopefully I can raise enough money for my tail and start getting myself in shape so I can actually order it :)

I have no idea where I will be located, but hopefully my tent will be hard to miss! I am so excited! Now to finish college next week so I can get started stockpiling.

I have never heard of a faire taking any of the tips. I have heard of them asking the larger vendors to pay a fee per the amount of people attending, but never part of the hat for performers. I would not perform there either.
