Okaaaay!!!

When I posted pictures of the making of my first sequin tail people already started asking after when I'd start my second one, and well, I started my project 2 months ago!!!

Again, a lot of preparation went into this one, a lot of doubting (still :-p) but because of my first tail I learned SO MUCH and so sewing the tail and putting the fabric and vinyl together was quite a breeze. Also I put 2 zippers in the tail (one in the back and one for inserting the monofin).

This tail is more Fairy/Princess inspired with pink/dark pink/white because I haven't seen a lot of pink tails and it's a color that looks good on my (so I think :-p), I also had the idea of combining the vinyl fins with a very soft fabric so it would create a beautiful flow in the water.

here is what it's going to look like (roughly):

22955

It's really first stage so bear with me, this one is going to take a while to finish. my first one took me 3 months to complete, but this one will take me longer.

hope you guys enjoy the ride!!! I know I will, mhihi :yay:

So here are a few pictures of the very beginning (one month ago :-p), don't look at me 'cause I looked awful that day, I blame it on the bad cold I had back then!

1/4 done :-p and as you can see I put fabric in between the vinyl to get the flowy effect, now, it still needs to be cut so the fabric and vinyl won't stay this way offcourse, I'm planning to cut it so it looks a bit tattered and more realistic.

And this is what I finished the day before yesterday so now you're all up to date :-p.

Sorry for the bad lighting, it was quite late.

Thank you Blaze!!! haha, yeah, I did a few 'cause I need like a clear vision in my head of what it's going to look like. And I'm so jealous of you because you have this AWESOME silicone tail, my dream silicone tail would be Mike Van Daal or Finfolk but I can't afford it and also, I don't have enough gigs yet. I was thinking that if I get good enough I might sell my sequin tails and start saving that money up for my dream silicone tail but until then I'm pretty happy with my babies :-).

Hey I would really consider buying a sequin tail from you if the price was worth it. I've always loved the way they look and I know there's no way I could do it myself.

Raayvhen and MermaidBonnie => I'm also rooting for you guys, your tails will be amazing I'm sure :-)

REALLY NOW (thinks about it). I might start my own business then :-p

Well, most of the time I worked on that tail for 12 hours a day, so that helps a lot! :-p, Its very exhausting though and on my first tail, the sequins aren't sewed that close to each other. But now it's different.

MermaidBrandie
07-30-2014, 05:23 PM
Yep 12 hours a day would do it for sure. lol I don't feel so bad now.

So here's what I did the last 2 nights (I say nights 'cause I had to work during the day) and I know, the pictures will be a bit boring because it's all going to look the same so I'm throwing in a design I made a year ago (the colors don't match the design I want now :-p, like a lot of people I change my mind all the time, it's pretty exhausting, don't you guys think?):

23012

23013
I finished the back of the tail (the end of the tail as you can see :-p) and something you might notice is the fact that the right side is wider and more straight then the other, which I fixed already by cutting some sequins off.

23014
This is supposed to be the front of the tail and I'm trying something new, doing both sides at the same time allows me to check constantly and use the same color sequins on the same spots so it's more symmetrical, once I got used to this technique I found out this is a good way to go and I'll keep using this. :-)

I finished the other side near the vinyl! Will post pictures tomorrow and then I move on to the next stage, which is adding more pink :-p. I've also been playing with the leftover white fabric and some vinyl to make more fins near the top of my tail, but I haven't quite figured that out yet, only that I want them to be long!

*Celine*
08-03-2014, 02:11 PM
Finished the front of the tail, now for the hard part, the transition from white to pink and dark pink.

Thank you! The tail is already sewn together and i would totally recommend this!! It's much easier, trust me! :-)

So sorry I haven't posted any more pictures but I got invited by Chris Crumley to participate in his mermaid portfolio workshop next week (a spot opened up) so I'm preparing everything to go to the Bahama's and finally get my first under water photoshoot!!! I'm so excited, you have no idea!!! But it's all very last minute so I need to get A LOT of things done: Which means I'll disappear for a week or two. After that I'll snap in 5th gear and finish this baby as soon as I can!!!

Hey guys,

Waow, I'm so sorry for being away for so long, it's been crazy, had a lot of ups and downs, stuff to deal with and my Blue sequin tail needed a quick fix for a waterballet show I performed in BUT I finally had the chance to continue on my pink beauty and here are a few photos of my progress!!! I do have to confess I was also being a bit lazy 'cause it can be a pain in the *** to upload these pictures and resize them and stuff, you guys all know what I'm talking about. ALSO my website is FINALLY online so if you want, swim over and check it out and let me know what you think (there is a small error in my english text but it's being fixed so please don't laugh at me to hard (okay, you can laugh a little bit 'cause it's a stupid mistake and I was like:" WHAT! How did I miss that :-p) and I've got a little video on my youtube channel so if you wanna check that out go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLJCTGLaifg

In the last picture the tail looks weir because I stuffed some pillows in there 'cause I want the fabric to stretch to it's max when I sew the sequins on which is WAY easier. Sorry for the bad quality and the light doesn't do the colors justice, I'll take some pictures when the light is better :-p.

Love you all!!!

so, as you can see, it's almost done! except for the back and the fins need to be trimmed.

on a different note, a lot of people have been asking me to make them a tail and I wasn't planning on doing this because it takes up a LOT of time and it's expensive as hell!!! BUT, here's your once in a lifetime opportunity! I made a little fundraiser because I would love to go back to the Bahama's with the Mermaid Portfolio Workshop, the pictures that were taken there are being used for environmental purposes where I live, which is what I want, it's my way of helping Mother Nature. Unfortunately, due to some health and depressions issues I can't afford it. So anyways, I decided to give the person who helps me a free sequin tail made by me! Beautiful!!! You did an amazing job on the colour blending, and OMG I love that white/pale pink part on the front! and THOSE FINS!!! Are you leaving them long and flowy? I can't say enough how much I adore long, flowy, translucent fins/flukes :swoon:And it looks amazing and ethereal with the colours you've used!

Also, I love the way you placed the colours on the fluke!

Gorgeous tail! Have you taken it for a test swim yet?

*Celine*
12-31-2014, 05:13 AM
Thank you so much, everyone, for the nice comments! It makes the hard work so worth while!

I ordered these sequins from alieexpress, I love them! They're about the same size as the sequins on Hannah's tails, I didn't want the smaller ones, that would've been grazy!

I haven't taken this tail out for a swim yet, I want it finished first, luckily, because of my first sequin tail, I know this one will do well in the water. And yes, the fins are staying long! Offcourse, they still have to be trimmed, but I want keep the length.

i'm glad you all like the blending, personally, I think I could've done a better job if I'd ordered more shades of the colors I'm using, but because of money (obviously:-p) I couldn't order more. (I've spend $3000 to make this tail, auwtch, but it's worht it!)

stay tuned for the last updates!

Mermaid Kelda

They might be the same sequins anyway - they look pretty much identical to the second type that cartwright's sells. They may well be cheaper on aliexpress, though!

Your tails are so stunning! o__o you give me inspiration to maybe finally start my own sequin tail!

Merman Arion
12-31-2014, 01:47 PM
I'm confused about something.
For this pink sequin tail you're currently making, you have spent 3000$. In euros, the cost would be nearly 2500.

Then, on your fundraiser page, I'm seeing 3500 EUROS for a custom sequins tail made by you. Why is it a thousand more expensive ?

CowgirlMermaid
12-31-2014, 01:54 PM
'So anyways, I decided to give the person who helps me a free sequin tail made by me!'

Plus, this sounds a bit weird. A sequin tail for free, after donating $/€3500?
(Not being picky or something, I just noticed it and thought it looked a bit funny)

Mermaid Lunette
12-31-2014, 01:56 PM
She has to make a profit I think. If she only charged for how much the supplies costs she wouldn't make any money for her work done. I think the extra is for the work she puts in, which also needs compensation.

Ack, but I am sure she can give you a better answer than I ^^; being the actual tail maker and all

(Sorry.)

Edit: oh, didn't see the kickstarter stuff. Hmmm, I dunno it that makes my comment accurate still or not.

Vrindavana Starfish
12-31-2014, 10:43 PM
Someone could still donate money to her indiegogo thing and not get a thank-you gift in return. They'd be donating to help her go on this trip, NOT actually buying a tail. The tail is a thank you for donating a crap-ton of money, here's an awesome gift. So, technically, they're not buying the tail. If someone felt so inclined, they could donate the money and refuse the tail, or ask her to keep it or give it to another mer.

*Celine*
01-01-2015, 06:10 AM
Yes, I totally understand where you're all coming from and it's true what Mermaid Lunette sais. I need to make some profit so I can make that trip, the money I will receive will be used to make the tail and what's left over is going to be put aside for the trip.

I'm sorry for all the confusing, I hope this explains it. :-)

I know I'm asking for a lot of money, that's why I wanted to give something awesome back and making someone a sequin tail is the best thing I can do.
