...hooray. ;\ I was for sure this would be about fresh water but then ah, nah, saltwater. I think my dad knew one of the guys who got that virus though--in the lagoon here though, which is saltwater/connected to the ocean. He has to be really careful with it. We're going to become the new Australia! :P

It's typically found in stagnant water, too. I'm glad I only swim in springs.

You can get it a lot of ways. A girl I know got it from an infected bug bite

it's around in Europe too, especially the (cold!) North and Baltic Sea, but also in freshwater.
naturally, no one here issues a warning (that's bad for tourism!), even though there are many cases of people dying after just walking on the shore.
(the beaches should be fenced off anyway because of the frequent accidents with WW2 relics which wash up all the time, but:
see note above about tourism)

I needed this! My boss and I were planning on going on a beach trip soon and I still have a few healing cuts on my hands from my cats and crafting.

well, never new australian waters had flesh eating bacteria... guess I should stop swimming????
