Hi guys! I'm a very new mermaid and I was wondering what I should do. I tried contacting the company, but it wasn't much help.
Here's my issue/question:
I'm 22, 4'10 and a size 6 shoe. Would I have to measure and get a custom or order a child size (for the monofin)?
I'm hoping to order from FinFun. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you're absolutely set on getting a fin fun, I'd check out other tail makers to see if any of their sizes or custom tails are what you need..

Maybe check mermaidtails.net to the tail maker reviews on this forum.

Finfun is the cheapest I can find, as I can't spend a bunch, and I'm looking for the "scale" look, not plain fabric.

Check out www.growatail.com . Their tails don't exactly have a scale pattern but they are all sparkly. The fabric itself looks like it has scales because of the sparkly foil (I think that's what it called). All of their tails are custom fitted and $115. They can also add a dorsal fin for $20.
I hope this helps!

Or maybe Magictail?

I am the sight height as you and I ordered a child's 10 or 12 from them and it fit with plenty of room. The mono fin was perfect fit for the tail too.

I just bought my first tail from The2Tails (http://www.the2tails.com/) for roughly $100.00
I bet they'll be able to help you out if you contact them. :]

Fin Fun's monofins are sort of a 'one size fits all'. They are a sheet of lexan between two pieces of neoprene, with two holes to put your feet into, so it is kind of like putting on a weird pair of socks! The main difference is size of the fin itself. They have the Monofin Jr. and the Monofin Pro. I'm sure they would be glad to help you figure out which would work with the tailskin you are interested in. I have had several of their tails, and I love them!

What are the differences between the two sizes?

I a. Pretty sure the fluke fabric size is the difference between the 2. The kids tails are naturally smaller and I believe the fluke is smaller to fit in the fluke pocket. Since adults are bigger I believe they make the fluke bigger b/c adults can handle it better. Don't quote me on that but it is just a hunch. If you talk to the tail makers they will be able to give you a better idea

I purchased both a FinFun tail and a Magictail as a new "active" mermaid last year and I would have to say that I have been happiest with the performance and photography results with my Magictail. I found that my FinFun tail fabric did not stand up to chlorine and saltwater as well. Just my opinion and personal experience. Good luck with your decision!

I had two tails that I bought from Fin Fun last year (one in September, and one was a Christmas present), and I usually swim 2 - 3 times a week in a chlorinated pool. I had to retire both tails back in late July because they had stretched to the point of being too hard to swim in. (Not easy to move well with a foot or so of fabric dragging off the back of the fluke!) Their new Mermaiden line, which has scales on the body and lines on the fluke, is supposed to be a bit sturdier. I haven't gotten one, because I am hoping they will do a 'goldfish' color-scheme version! :)
