for People that have used thinners for thinning silicone down for either spray painting or for ornate castings could you please shred some light on the types of brands used for silicone. typically the brand name and any negative things that you have come across by using the product. is paint thinner the same as silicone thinner? it seems to be taking me forever to do my tail and Ive decided that if i can thin silicone down then perhaps i could syringe it up then into my moulds. ornate mould castings.

when using thinners for silicone does the silicone cure?

any info that people can give would be greatly appreciated. I made this thread for other people looking for similar answers.

You need to use a hydrocarbon based solvent ( paint thinner for oil based paints work ) I used a bottle of Thai pair thinner and did a test - I added a lot of thinner till the silicone was the consistency of my Createx paint and then sprayed - I think you can use any thinner of this kind - the colour will pale a little you can just add more pigment, but it cured fine for me ! Just do a test to work out how much to put in - it's very fumey so I'd recommend using in a ventilated space and you will need to be able to take apart your airbrush I would say since the silicone will cure inside - make sure you clean it out with paint thinner to try and dissolve what's left - hope this helps a bit
