- —because everyone needs to love themselves, even just a little. ღ
I got a really cool idea last night from tumblr! Here's how it works: you post your favorite selfie (or don't, it's up to you!) and tell your fellow merfriends a couple things you like/love about yourself. (:
I'll go first!; I think I've got lovely eyes and totally kickass tattoos, I can also hold my breath minutes. No selfie because I just posted a whole album, haha.
Now it's your turn. ღ
Have fun! x

Great idea :)
I don't particularly love myself, but what i like about myself is my first and only tattoo that i got because i didn't wan't to be scared of pain anymore. i thought that if i got the tattoo, and if i can get through the labour, i can get through anything.
i also i have a tiny little scar from when i used to cut, and i can look back on that scar and happily say i dont do that crap any more.

Thank you!
I'm the same way, to be honest. I definitely can't say I love myself, but I can find a few things here and there that I'm thankful to have.
Congrats on not cutting anymore (I'm six months clean myself) and getting that tattoo! You're a trooper, darling. :rainbow:

I suppose I can kick off the selfie part of this thread. Here's one I took just the other day when I was feeling super cute:
23216
I like my tattoo, I like my super nerdy love of things, I enjoy my height and my lack of concern about altering my appearance through hair styles and dyes, ink, and possibly piercings in the future. I like that I'm learning to love myself and to be less concerned with what everyone else thinks.
Self love is definitely a lot of hard work and it's not something that's going to happen overnight. You have to work at it every day and finding little things you like about yourself is an excellent way to start.
A trick I learned that helps some people is in the morning after a shower or brushing your teeth or whatever you're doing that'll put you in front of a mirror give yourself a sort of pep talk. I find the best way to do this is naked because then you're kind of forced to see you for what you are before you put on all your super rad clothes and head out for the day. Not everyone is comfortable seeing themselves naked though, so if you have to start off fully or partially clothed then that's perfectly okay, too. What's important is that you're seeing yourself.
Pick something about yourself that you like and say it to your reflection. "I like the way my hair looks today. I like my nose. I like my arms."
Pick something you don't like about yourself and say it to your reflection, but then be sure you add that you're going to try and love it anyway. "I don't like the way my thighs look. I don't like the way my chin looks. I don't like the way my stomach is shaped. But I'm going to try and love them anyway."
Tell yourself that you're cute, pretty, handsome, beautiful, whatever positive thing that you want. It's probably going to feel silly and awkward speaking to your reflection and you may even feel like you're lying to yourself. Do it anyway. Tell your reflection that you love you, tell your reflection that you are beautiful and that you're deserving of love from others and from yourself. Do this every day before you set out to do whatever it is you've got to do. Eventually it's not going to feel so silly anymore and after that it's going to start to feel less like a lie and more like the truth. The more you tell yourself something the more you're eventually going to believe it.
It's a lot of hard work undoing self hatred and the way the media operates doesn't help, but it can be done. You just have to be willing to put in the work, just like with anything else in life. Eventually you will love yourself. It may not be 100%, there may always ben things about yourself that you don't like, but those things are part of what makes you who you are and every bit of you deserves all the love in the world.
It's really awesome that the two of you are doing what you can to feel better about yourselves and to care for yourselves. Keep it up! :)
