So, I had a pretty bad moment today. I had gotten a spandex fabric to make my tail, which is a spandex fabric. I got this fabric from my grandma, who stilll had the receipt (don't ask me why, she kept receipts for everything), and it said that it was swimwear fabric. So, don't ask me why I decided to trust the store receipts information on the purposes you can use the fabric for (it's not like the store would know what the fabric is good for!), but I did. I made my tail, I washed it, I resewed it a big smaller, and then a bit smaller to compensate for any bit of extra stretch it may get from the weight of the water. I finally decided that before I start painting, I should test it in the bathtub (because I live in Alberta without a lake or anything).
I got super excited, got my tail on (which was tight, but that was expected), put the monofin in it, and as soon as I got in the water, the fabric totally stretched out and flopped and draped everywhere. Before that, I had even tried it on wet, just to test it, and it was fine! But now it was sagging and heavy and it looked like I had just draped a wet sheet over my legs. So, now I am out of thread, and all of the materials I bought for decorating have just got down the drain. I am not sure if I have enough money to get more fabric because I'm saving up for other things too, and the only fabric store I am near is Fabricland, which is super expensive and doesn't have the best selection, despite the fact that it is called Fabricland. I don't really know what to do now, or if there is any way to make it less stretchy, or something.
