Hi Everyone,
I am new here. I became a member just a few days ago.
One of the things i love to do is to read in my spare time.
Some of my favorite writers are Catherine Cookson (novels) and Cate Tiernan (Fantasy novels)
Has anyone here read anything of Cate Tiernan? I just loved her Wicca series.
I always like to hear about other authors and books to possibly find new reading material.
So i would like to hear some of your favorite books/authors.
Hope to hear from you all soon :)

Just looked her up and she writes a lot of different things from poetry to short stories, childrens books etc.
What of her work do you like the most? Or read a lot?

I would now like to direct you to my signature... Also, I have heard that a lot of people like Ted Dekker, particularly the Circle series. I haven't read it myself, but my brothers and a bunch of my friend have read it and said it was good.
But seriously, Lord of the Rings???? Here is my plan for you. If you haven't read The Hobbit, read it. Then, if you haven't read Lord of the Rings, read it. The list then goes as follows:
-The Silmarillion
-Children of Hurin
-Unfinished Tales
-Tales of the Perilous Realm (A collection of short short stories)
-The History of Middle Earth
-The Adventures of Tom Bombadill
-The Atlas of Middle Earth
I think that should keep you occupied for a little while :)

Fun fact: the hubby and I once performed our Punch and Judy show at World Fantasy Con at Neil Gaiman's request, and we got to sit on a discussion panel with him. Way fun!

I'm gonna go ahead and be that person that say Harry Potter. Because I just can't get enough of those books.
Diana Wynne Jones - Howl's Moving Castle
Peter S. Beagle - The Last Unicorn
J. M. Barrie - Peter Pan
Along with Harry Potter I can read these three books over and over again and never get tired of them
Also:
Anne Rice - The Vampire chronicles
Marissa Meyers - Lunar Chronicles
Melissa Marr - Wicked Lovely series
Lewis Carrol - Alice In Wonderland, and Through The Looking Glass and What Alice Found There
Frank Beddor - The Looking Glass Wars trilogy
I tend to read a lot from the teen paranormal section in the book store which may seem a little silly since I haven't been a teen in some time, but I've found some of my favorite books there so meh

I do the same thing. I really enjoy the fantasy books in the teen section. That is where i found Cate Tiernan's work and also Melaina Feranda and many others. It is easy to read and just a lot of fun :-)

Terry Pratchett - Discworld novels, if you like some satirical books. My personal favorites are the Watch books, starting with "Guards, Guards!", but the other Discworld books are good as well.
On the more serious side, the books from Frank Schätzing, although I don't know if they are translated into English.

I read a short story from Terry Pratchett which was ok. I have a dvd of one of his series that came out but i don´t like that. Maybe i need to give his real books like the Discworld novels a try one day :)

I totally agree, Saoirse. Everyone also check out a book called Nyx by D.M. Livingston. It's a really awesome novel about a Fae and some witches that she meets. There are also some really funny bits.

One of my most favorite books of the non-fiction section is "Sea change" by Sylvia A. Earle. The book is a mixture of autobiography and environmental report and really interesting to read. Don't know if it is still in print, but maybe you can get it second-hand.

I've gotten really into the books the Clive Cussler has written. Dirk pitt is my absolute favorite! All of his books of the dirk pitt series are tied with NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) so it talk a lot about the sea. Lots of historical ties in his books. Also love the Numa Files with Kurt Austin.
Other authors include Brad Meltzer, Any of the Images Of America Series, and John Fardell.
Also Clive Cussler has actually founded his own NUMA and does Maritime Archeology. This guy is pretty rad!

Stephen King
Clive Cussler
The author of The Selkie Bride (too lazy to google her name atm)
Tolkien
Anne McCaffrey
I am Number 9 series
And a few others Sci Fi and fantasy writers I can't think of their names. Can't go to look cos we're moving house and I cleared out my massive bookshelf!
One book that made my cry in the first chapter was, A Boy Called It. Very sad real life story. Then I read his next one, A Child Called It, also very sad. I rarely read sob stories cos I can get so emotional for no reason. But these two, made me sob for days whenever I remembered a part of the story. I prefer sci fi and fantasy where I can escape the real world.
