Mermaid Laurell

Hi, everyone! My mermaid name is Nalani, but my real name is Laurell. :3
I'm from southern Illinois. I'm seventeen. I am a lesbian. I plan on joining the Air Force on or soon after my eighteenth birthday!
I had a job as a lifeguard over the summer. I was able to swim down to thirteen feet, pick up a twenty-five pound brick, and dolphin kick back to the surface with ease. I would then drop the brick, let it touch the bottom, and then go back down after it. I was able to do this continually for about twenty minutes, maybe longer. My breath hold, though, surprisingly, is not very good. Probably because I haven't really been practicing it. So, that's my underwater skills.
I do not have a tail. In fact, the most I plan to get is a monofin so that I can save up for the tail I really want, which is a Merbella tail. I'm hoping that by the time I can afford one, there will be more fluke options and more design options somehow. I absolutely adore Raven's tails. Heck, I just adore her work all over the board, especially her scaled tops and some of her shell tops. They just appeal to me so much! After seeing Raven's hair pieces, I grieved for my long hair for the first time since I got it cut. I knew none of those pieces would look good with my hair. Anyway. As soon as I enlist I'm setting up a tail fund! I'm wanting a performance tail. I just don't know what fins or colors I want yet.
Orcas are my favorite sea creature. I'd love to get an orca tail, but I know white is really hard to do on a tail.
Dogs are my favorite land creature. I hope to be blessed with boxers or boxer mixes throughout my life.
I'm really new to this community. I've always been super fascinated by the sea, and I've always kind of imagined myself a mermaid when I swim. I thought it was just what some kids do, you know? It probably is, but, I imagined myself as a mermaid when I was swimming like last month. Funny thing, I didn't even know the mer community existed a month ago! I knew that some people made mermaid tails for fun, for little kids, but I had no idea that being a mermaid was a lifestyle! I was so excited when I found out!!! And now I'm here, surrounded by merfolk, and it's so exciting! I don't really feel like I can claim myself a mer just yet. I've only known about this community for less than a week, and I do not have a tail. In fact, my mermaid obsession was pretty closeted for most of my life. Although it was a common theme in my mind throughout my life, I never voiced it. I watched h2o: Just Add Water my freshman year of high school. I was as secretive about it as I could be, and my family kinda poked fun at me for watching such a little kid show. One day, I had friends over, and they wanted to watch Netflix. h2o popped up as my most recently watched show and I got a few odd looks, so I quickly came up with an excuse. A few weeks later I was at another friend's house, and h2o popped up on her Netflix screen. I asked her if she watched that show and she became super animated and excited and I realized I'd been pretty stupid about hiding it. We watched h2o and talked about it all the time after that. It was really great! I think she actually has plans to become a mer, too!
Okay whole life story there!! XD Sorry about that, but yeah. I'm super excited to be here, proud to be here, proud to be making progress toward my transition into a mer. :D
Can't wait to swim with you!
