Hello Mernetwork.

My name is Mermaid Corabelle and I live in Corpus Christi, Texas. I want to begin my introduction by saying how glad I am to have found this forum. This is such a brilliant resource for all things Mermaid! I can't express how happy it makes me to know there are so many other mers out there! I want to apologize in advance for how long this post might be.. Mermaids are very special to me and I have a feeling this will be lengthy.

I've always had a passion for mermaids (Thanks to Disney's The Little Mermaid) and couldn't learn enough about them as child. I grew up a Navy brat, traveling the coastal U.S. (My father worked on Aircraft Carriers, so I was never far from the ocean) and with every new duty station came a new school. I was a bit of a loner then, but I took comfort in reading.. Particularly books about mermaids. My childhood was short-lived. My mother became ill when I turned 9 years old, so she relied a lot on me to care for my three siblings and our home since my dad was always away. I grew up anxious.. and faster than I should've; confronted by the harshness of reality every time my mom's disease progressed. Regardless, I never let go of the fantasy in my head. I often dreamed about mermaids and woke up feeling happy and relieved.

At the time of my mother's diagnosis, I lived in a Virginia home that had a small, narrow creek that crept up into my backyard. It wasn't unusual to find 9-year-old me sitting on the banks scanning the surface for any sign of mermaids I could find. One dream I had in particular during that time had a profound effect on me. It was very vivid.. And it had a beautiful mermaid in it. I have a link to the story I wrote about it called “Mermaid in the Water” on my WordPress right here: http://theccmermaid.wordpress.com/

I never forgot that dream.. and I hung onto it like a barnacle clings to a pier. The possibility of bringing the magic my dream mermaid brought me in my sleep, to another little girl or boy would be amazing. I feel that with my background in communications (I’m a former TV news producer and current freelance reporter) and working with children (I used to entertain at birthday parties as a princess & worked as a teacher at a daycare), this is definitely something I want to pursue. My journey to becoming a professional mermaid is deeply personal to me.. and it’s a goal I’m not giving up on anytime soon. Besides, after a decade of networking through other jobs in this market, I’m confident this sparkling city by the sea is ready to let a mermaid into their hearts and.. pools.

Glad to be a part of the community. I look forward to interacting with you guys and if there are any new mers starting out that are beginning their journey to become professional mermaids, feel free to message me. I think it would be fun to get connected while we earn our fins together!

welcome Corabelle!

I hope you'll like it here.
There are several other mers from Texas here, maybe you can meet them?

I grew up near a creek too, and I'm trying to get back to living near one (even if it's too cold for swimming, living with water nearby is just wonderful.)

Caltuna,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am finding this site very useful already!
I hope to meet some of the other Texas Mers.. that would be great. It would be awesome to connect with others who share my passion for mermaids! :)

I have never been far from water.. In fact, the only time I ever felt land-locked was when I lived in Orlando for a short period of time. I was working as an intern at Walt Disney World.
I visited Homosassa Springs though and got to see the manatees. And I also went to Clearwater. SO beautiful.

Never got the chance to go to Weeki Wachee though. I'll see the mers there someday!

Welcome to the network!

I'm actually in my current job at Disney World because of my internship there!

Hopefully you could help hook me up with connections! I have a degree in marketing and Disney's marketing jobs are insanely hard to come by.
