Hello Mernetwork.
My name is Mermaid Corabelle and I live in Corpus Christi, Texas. I want to begin my introduction by saying how glad I am to have found this forum. This is such a brilliant resource for all things Mermaid! I can't express how happy it makes me to know there are so many other mers out there! I want to apologize in advance for how long this post might be.. Mermaids are very special to me and I have a feeling this will be lengthy.
I've always had a passion for mermaids (Thanks to Disney's The Little Mermaid) and couldn't learn enough about them as child. I grew up a Navy brat, traveling the coastal U.S. (My father worked on Aircraft Carriers, so I was never far from the ocean) and with every new duty station came a new school. I was a bit of a loner then, but I took comfort in reading.. Particularly books about mermaids. My childhood was short-lived. My mother became ill when I turned 9 years old, so she relied a lot on me to care for my three siblings and our home since my dad was always away. I grew up anxious.. and faster than I should've; confronted by the harshness of reality every time my mom's disease progressed. Regardless, I never let go of the fantasy in my head. I often dreamed about mermaids and woke up feeling happy and relieved.
At the time of my mother's diagnosis, I lived in a Virginia home that had a small, narrow creek that crept up into my backyard. It wasn't unusual to find 9-year-old me sitting on the banks scanning the surface for any sign of mermaids I could find. One dream I had in particular during that time had a profound effect on me. It was very vivid.. And it had a beautiful mermaid in it. I have a link to the story I wrote about it called “Mermaid in the Water” on my WordPress right here: http://theccmermaid.wordpress.com/
I never forgot that dream.. and I hung onto it like a barnacle clings to a pier. The possibility of bringing the magic my dream mermaid brought me in my sleep, to another little girl or boy would be amazing. I feel that with my background in communications (I’m a former TV news producer and current freelance reporter) and working with children (I used to entertain at birthday parties as a princess & worked as a teacher at a daycare), this is definitely something I want to pursue. My journey to becoming a professional mermaid is deeply personal to me.. and it’s a goal I’m not giving up on anytime soon. Besides, after a decade of networking through other jobs in this market, I’m confident this sparkling city by the sea is ready to let a mermaid into their hearts and.. pools.
Glad to be a part of the community. I look forward to interacting with you guys and if there are any new mers starting out that are beginning their journey to become professional mermaids, feel free to message me. I think it would be fun to get connected while we earn our fins together!
