Hey, just wanted to see if anybody on mernetwork plays MTG. I'm thinking probably not, but hey, it's worth a shot, right?

Oh I remember this game being mentioned in Fallout 2... The zombie mutant always won, and it was called, "Tragic: The Garnering"

Carolina, Magic is a fantasy card game. A lot of people say it's like a card version of Dungeons and Dragons.
Wesley, you should DEFINITELY learn to play. :)
Ireneho, yeah, it's mentioned in a lot of games and TV shows just because it's super popular in the fantasy game community. Just now I am realizing how much of a nerd I really am...

Long ago, I worked as a TSRO (online chat host for TSR, the D&D folks). We used to joke about M:tG all the time. Then WotC (the M:tG folks) bought TSR and we stopped laughing.

Oh, I didn't know they bought it out. Hm, then again, MTG has kind of created a monopoly of that industry...

I'm more of a new player (April?). and I'm thoughoughly obsessed. What do you think of the new release/block structure?

I do. I actually have enough cards to make a few decks.... which is why my brother borrowed them. He wanted to put them into this website thing to help build decks... but here I am about to go ninja them back from his apartment because game nights are getting interesting! I once upon a time had this really good black and blue deck that stood up against my stepdad's illegal (competition) vampire deck. Four hours later my mom had to tell us we were done and it was a tie.

Raayvhen: hey, a new player is better than a non-player! :) And which block were you talking about, Journey into Nyx, or just the M15 set in general? I really liked Nyx, mostly because I already have an enchantment deck and that set got me some great stuff to add to it!

Coral: Haha, yeah, my brother is the one who got me into it a few years ago, and for a while I just used his cards. Then he 'gave' me some of his cards to make better decks, and now he takes my cards and puts them in his decks... hmm.... I haven't actually made a blue-black deck, but I have played with one, and it's pretty fun. I made a kick-butt vampire deck that I have won tournaments with. My brother and I have made a few Commander decks (one that's blue-black-white, one that's green-white, and one that's a mono-red Goblin deck), and one day we literally woke up at 8:00 and played a total of 13 hours in one day. I won most of the games. :)

I was actually talking about the new structure. Cutting out the yearly core sets and only having a two sets per block.

also yaaaas. Blue black decks!

Oh I see... To be honest, I liked the core sets, but I find the themes of the sets a lot more interesting. I split fat packs between me and my brother for M12, 13, and 14, and I enjoy playing with the other sets a lot better.

It was my stepdad for me, he used to judge competitions when he was younger.

Oh cool! So he took the test and everything? He must have really been into it!

I suppose so. He had enough cards to make six full decks, one for each of the kids and two for him to play with against us. My brother is the one who is more into competitions. I prefer just playing for the sake of it.

I used to play that game all the time but I've fallen out of it...I would love to get back into it!

Coral: Nice! Yeah, my brother is the one who makes most of the decks. I am truly awful at it! I myself have three standard decks and two Commander decks, and my brother now has four standard and one Commander. We keep on ripping some apart to make new ones though, so we have about twelve 'half-decks' which, if we got a few more cards, could be pretty decent. I have done a few casual drafts with some friends, and I entered a couple of city-wide competitions (that's what I won with my vampire deck). I haven't gone in any competitions recently, mostly because of school starting up, but that's okay, I can still play with other people

I'm working on a blue/black merfolk deck ATM.

Also, my local shop has a ladies only night for MTG and it's wonderful! No sexist bullshit or intimidation tactics during casual or tourney play. I highly recommend finding a lady planeswalkers group.

Who's excited for prerelease? I'm signed up for noon as Temur (RUG) I'm nervous about building a 3 color sealed deck. I think my plan based on draft simulators is Red/Green with a blue splash.

I haven't played it in ages, but then again, I was rather getting the cards for the pictures on them, so I was more collecting them then playing with them :P

Just learned last night and loved it! Looking into building a deck, but it's kind of intimidating starting out- there's SOOOOOOO much stuff to learn X_X
