So I decided to try the "boost my post" option on FB after reading a few articles and hearing that they "made it better". I'm going to document the process here.
First of all I picked a post I just made for my experiment. Here's what happened when I first selected boost my post:

the default was TURKEY. I xed it out, and it tells you if you don't put in a specific place it'll default to Turkey. WTF is that? Lol shouldnt it default to Canada? Turkey is kinda random. So, I changed it to Canada and picked the 22$ bidding price. It does not mean you pay 22$ though and get x amount of promotion. It means you are bidding against others to pay 22$ for your promotion. It's weird. Anyway...

Here's what I selected and did ^

I got this message. It's because I read the TOS and if fb goes over the bid amount THEY CAN STILL CHARGE YOU and in order to set up any payment, they require you approve pre-approved billing! So I didn't wanna get caught up in all that so I set my limit to 30$ so if for some reason it goes past 22$ IT stops AT 30$ and they can't keep taking money.
Here's what it looks like in the end.

^so these are the stats I have started with. let's see how well it goes, and I'll let you know if I actually book any gigs from facebook, lol.
I really dont think this will do anything but I try once every year or so to see if things have improved.

Wow. I heard that it didn't do much to pay for a boost and it's good to see that it's actually true. I hate that you had to pay for it, though. I've been trying all sorts of thing to increase the boost of the posts for my jewelry page and the thing that seems to work the best is posting pictures. Then links, then regular posts. Shares come in last. I hate their logorithms

Turkey....
Ok.... WTF? What algorithm did they use to come up with that? I'd love to talk to the programmer who came up with it (I'm sure my husband would, too)
I could maybe see that as being the default for one of my pages (Iran uses a lot of Turkish proxies because the government restricts and censors the internet there, loads of Iranians expat and vacation there, and also because all my subject matter is very much Asia Minor and South Asian based, which Turkey would technically fall under) But your pages don't deal with any of that stuff that mine do. Do they make extra money when you change the default?

I haven't booked a single gig from FB, and I don't really expect to.
It's still annoying to see the "we throttled your reach down to 3 people, pay us $$ in order to reach more of your friends and subscribers trololol!" every time I post some info.
I won't be using this feature ever.
It's nothing one should support.

Yet another day and the analytics sits at zero. I don't think they charge me if nothing happens, lol.

It's good that they don't charge you unless something happens, but you would THINK that something would happen, with the way they try to force this down all the pages throats

ERMAGERD I could pull my hair out. So remember this lovely saga of me trying to get promoted post to work? Paying for LEGIT Facebook advertising. I noticed a bump in my "likes" this week, and my credit card was charged the 30$ from FB. All of a sudden I have new likes- yay great! Any guesses where the demographic is from...? TURKEY. EVen after changing the default setting for the damn add to be local, it stayed stuck in Turkey. EVEN THOUGH I SPECIFICALLY PUT CANADA. ugggh
This is how they get yah I'm telling you.
In conclusion: waste of money- unless you'd like to be famous in Turkey. -_-

And likely fake-famous at that. :/ Isn't Turkey like Indonesia, where it's filled with dummy accounts? I'm always worried when I get hits on anything I run from Turkey.... And I post stuff in Turkish sometimes. But it's because I never know when it's real and when it's a dummy.

Well I don't know if its fake or not but I do know turkey is specifically what fb kept defaulting to. Usually when I get spam accounts fb deletes the likes over a few days. But this was through fb so who knows. :(

FB is insane. When my husband worked in Silicon Valley he had friends who worked at FB, and all I could think of was "how the f*ck does that company hold itself up and function? these people are supposed to be like programming/engineering whizzes and they're all so..... (no nice word for it, really.)"
Keep in mind, my benchmark for these people is my husband, who, as an engineer, lacks practically all common sense.... And these people made him seem sane and sensible by comparison. o.O
They were nice, by the way, but they were just.... So not there entirely.....
