Hi! I have a fabric tail and it has some wear showing. I want to do parties and events, but I feel really self conscious about my tail like it isn't good enough... Should I wait and save up for a good more professional tail or start with the one I have?

Could you cover the worn areas with some pretty, finlike fabric, jewelry, or other accessories? Or perhaps a really nice top and headdress would be enough to make an impressive costume in spite of the tail's flaws.

Maybe the use of a belt could help the situation? Not sure where exactly the weak spots are, but if they are near the hips, or knees.. a long fishnet-type belt may work.. or maybe a scarf to cover it. I saw some that Raina uses in one of her youtube videos, and they look pretty in the water. Or like what Galene said, you can distract party-goers from the tail's shortcomings by bringing attention to other parts of yourself with the use of accessories. :)

I started with crap-tastic tails :) you can do it too!!! <3 I felt insecure but I got more confidence as I went. It took years to get my good tail!

My first tail was fabric (which wore out to being sheer and baggy) and yet little girls had no problem believing I was a real mermaid when I swam in the local pool. If it's what you want, I say go for it. The mermaid makes the tail, the tail does not make the mermaid. c:

There are mers with way more realistic and prettier tails than what I have, so I guess I could be insecure.
But fact is; I get paid for what I do, and the tail is just an accessory.
If it were the other way around, maybe I'd worry.

Kids won't notice it as much as you think, they are just in awe of a mermaid. If the weak spots are in areas when're maybe you could add something to embellish it that would be great!!! Kids notice thing and that opens up an opportunity to tell a good story and then they are so interested in that they forget what they asked!!!
