Mertender Appreciation Day

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but I am on mobile so who knows if I missed anything.

There's a mermaid awareness day that got started this year, but I think we need a day to celebrate the mertenders in our lives. Whether they're significant others, friends, family, or hired help. Mertenders have a hard job and it seems like they don't get enough recognition for it.

So I move to declare October 1st as the first annual Mertender Appreciation Day!

I'm all for it! Mertenders have a lot to do, so they deserve credit as well. Carrying waterlogged merfolk, helping others put on tails, watching belongings, making sure they stay safe and not overcrowded by people- it's definitely something that can keep their hands full! My boss at the computer store that I work at is also my Mertender, and he has a really hard time carrying me sometimes! Having an appreciation day would give me a good excuse to get my Mertender a gift to let him know just how thankful I am for having his help. :)

I think anything that shows you care would be fine! Everyone is different, so one mertender might be happiest to go out and do an event of some kind, or one might rather stay in with a home cooked meal. Whatever makes your mertender happy. C:

i'm making his a scavenger/puzzle hunt. (think professor layton and hint coins)
and i'm going to do strictly penguin puzzles since he loves penguins. and then after we're gonna have some penguin cake.

My mertender's birthday is a few days before the appreciation day and I keep trying to sneak info out of her for things she might like. She thinks I mean for her birthday (which is already taken care of), so it's the perfect cover. :p

Happy Mertender Appreciation Day everyone! Mine was completely taken by surprise, but very happy. XD I got her flowers, this wooden pirate ship to build/paint, and will be cooking her favorite dinner!

Happy Mertender Appreciation day everyone!
I ended up caving and giving my mertender his gift a few days early because he'd been feeling a little down. It's a pendant that I'd been able to put together with supplies that I already had on hand. We were planning on going to the beach but those plans fell under. Instead we'll be going to the pool later today. Hoping on getting some video/pictures with my underwater phone case. :)

Yaaaay! I'm so glad you all had a good day/reaction! :3 I love that necklace, Saoirse! I wanted to make my mertender some jewelry but she's kind of picky with what she'll wear/she only has one necklace with lots of trinkets on it.

I think I went through and liked all the mertender appreciation day posts on tumblr! I may have missed some though since tumblrs tagging system is less than perfect lol.

Here's the finished ship that was in the kit I gave my mertender! She stayed up all night working on it, lol, whoops.

Today started out awesome! Got up early and surprised my main mertender/photographer John at his computer store with a daiyaki and a bracelet I made!
I'm giving my merwrangler his first Mertender Appreciation Day gift on Saturday since I won't see him until then.
Here are the two gifts that I made. The one on the left is for my merwrangler to match with other pieces I've made him and the one on the right is for John.

I decorated a cookie cake for my mertender! I also made bread bowl soup for dinner and got her a few collectables that she's been looking for. She was really happy :3
