Ya know, to be honest, I thought being a professional mermaid and have a lot of body modifications was going to be difficult to get hired. Though, no one seems to care. I can hide my tattoos easy, though during mermaid rides the kids see them (I have 2 behind my ears) and yell it out but no one has a problem. I have 2 gems implanted in my face, no one has a problem with it, along with have 3 other piercings on my face. Not one single person has ever asked me about my piercings or tattoos as a professional mermaid. No one has a problem with it. Damn. Either I’m really lucky or something happened with the world that I missed. Has anyone had any problems with getting hired with their body modifications?

Depends on what you're trying to do.

Will parents booking you for children's parties care about a piercing or tattoo?
Probably not, as long as it's not too much.

Will you be weeded out from an aquarium gig or dive show audition?
Very likely.

Well Im not in business, even though I would love to do it. But with my tattoos I just can't think that my dream work as a mermaid is possible. The only way I can see this could happen, is if I cover up my arms in flesh colored fabric. So no, I have not had problems with it, but it's the reason that I have confessed to myself that my mermaid passion can only be for fun in a pool.

I don't think your tattoos attract too much attention because they're not over the top. Only your deer and the pokeballs don't get covered, right? If anyone ever says anything for the deer, you can always be like "oh, I saw one once when I surfaced and it was just so cute I wanted to remember it forever" or some thing like that. The pokeballs would be harder to explain away. :p If it ever became an issue, you could cover them with waterproof makeup. They make special tattoo covering foundation.

And as for the face gems, lots of mermaids stick sparkly things on their faces as decoration. People probably don't realize they're perminent lol.

Everyone but Mimi has tats in my group. Mutiny has something like 11 piercings. Never been as issue. I used to have eyebrow and nose rings but I took em out long before mermaiding

Raven has tats and piercings. So do dive bar mermaids. I've honestly only ever heard of one mermaid being told no and given the context I felt that was just a cop out

I've heard of one situation where tattoos were used as a reason to decline a mermaid too but I'm thinking Raina and I have heard the same thing lol. It seemed like an excuse more than a reason.

I know some hotels here in Hawaii won't hire you if you have tattoos showing, but if you figure out a way to cover them up then you're okay. I know some parents are more strict and will request someone with no tattoos, but I haven't faced any major issues with my one that shows on my back, and Storm and Shelly are heavily tattooed and do great with it still.

One of our mermaids has a couple of visible arm tattoos and it's never been a problem. I guess it might partly depend on what the tattoos are of :)

I think the fantastical element of mermaids might make people okay with it. Maybe that's just how people decorate themselves under the sea. Now if you are supposed to be Ariel, then that may be a problem.
