Alaskan Mermaid

I want to start mermaiding and have been saving for a tail. But my question is this: What is the best way to break into it? Just get the tail and swim at the local pool or what? My husband really supports me but he doesn't want to see me flop here in Alaska. We aren't here for long but I'm tired of waiting for the next place we live at to be the place I get the tail and go for it. If anyone can give me any tips that would be great, thank you!

Building a reputation and a customer base takes time.
What you can do even on short term, is get yourself business cards/flyers, and distribute them at aquariums, local pools and the like (depending on what you wish to do as a mermaid), also maybe doing a few performances as charity in the beginning is a good idea.
