Hello all!
I thought I might start a new thread for my second tail/prototype molds. ;)
Now back from traveling and am excited to get this one in full swing. I don't have a pic of the scale mold, but it's the standard circles style. But here is the design and some molds in progress.
The main color is gold - shimmery, glittery gold with black and purple. I didn't have the color pencils to really color the design right.
This is partly inspired by my childhood idea (gold) and a trigger fish (fins near the knees).

I LOVE the fluke design! I can already tell this is going to be a beautiful tail!

Thank you! :)
I'm excited to see it happen too. I'm thinking I may it a bit floppy at the end. I'm usually partial to stiff flukes. Still undecided on that.

I love that fluke. (But I'm also a big fan of floppy flukes.) Can't wait to see this come together. (:

Your work really shows. Are you putting a monofin in it?
LaNyah
10-12-2014, 02:32 PM
Thank you.
Definitely a monofin, but I haven't decided on the size of it. I am experimenting with making my own custom monofin out of lexan.

PearlieMae has lots of experience with creating Lexan monofins, you might drop her a note for some shortcuts in time and cost.

I have read all (I think?) of her info about the monofins. I love the idea of making the fin exactly the shape needed for the design.

First coat is on. Still some blending and a ton of detailing to do, but it's a good start. (These pics don't show the gold as brilliant and glittery as it really is. )

Have you snuck into it yet?

Before painting, yes. I'm my own model for now so it's convenient that I can check the fit. :)

Well, it's pretty much finished. I learned more, made a few production/painting errors in the process and will not repeat them. I think it reflects the original design well (one of the main goals) and echos the trigger fish inspiration. All in all, I'm happy with it.
...now on to the next one!

You cannot get the silicone you need here in Australia. You have to import it, and it's expensive as heck. You seem like a newbie to Mermaiding (I'm just hazarding a guess here) so seriously, go with fabric for a while.
If you won't take my advice, find and ask Mermaid Mizuko (she's from South Australia). She made a silicone tail early this year and documented it.

If they have dive experience programs you just ask about a before or after hours session in your tail. Denver was glad to host us

I. Am. In love. With that fluke.
It's exactly what I wanted for my trout tail.
OMG. . .
Would you be interested in a commission? I'd be happy to help with the prototyping process. . . my tail will be, shall we say. . . a bit different and I was interested in specifically working with an up-and-comer due to this.
I'll message you on FB.
