Hello mer-sisters andmer-brothers!


I’ve just realised thatI haven’t properly introduced myself yet. Shame on me! :p Alright, my name is Pacifica and I’m a 33-year-old mermaid from Brunswick (Braunschweig), Germany. My obsession with mermaids started back in1989, when I was 8 years old and I watched The Little Mermaid. My love for everything mer-related became stronger in 1994, after seeing Daryl Hannah in Splash! That was my first encounter with a real life mermaid. Now, 10 years later, I own two fabric tails myself, both from magictail. Getting accepted as a mer in the area I live in isn’t easy. Mermaiding is still a novelty here in Germany, but I hope that’ll change soon. I’d love to swim more often in one of my tails, but unfortunately I live 4 hours away from the coast. And using a tail in public pools isn’t allowed due to safety regulations. That means I only have the summer months left, when I can visit the lake nearby.


When on two legs, I work as a vet assisstant. I dedicated my life to helping animals, and I love adopting old cats from the shelter. Our tomcat, Mr. Henry Higgins, is 16 years old. In my free time, I take ballet classes, and love to sew and write. I’m married to the most wonderful woman, who’s roaming the oceans as a selkie, by the way. She’s my mer-tendress, and supports me in everything that I do.


I’ve tried my hand at tailmaking once, but the result was a catastrophe, lol. Since that day, I’ve gained a new respect towards all the professional tailmakers out there.


Anyway, I’m happy I joined this group, and hope to find many new friends here.

i'm a mermaid from austria and i know how hard it is to to be a mermaid when everyone looks at you like youre a freak :-(
but i'm really happy that more and more german-speaking mermaids join the forum!

Pool-wise, you should shop around.
Most regions of Germany have a plethora of pools to choose from, and many of them don't mind fins or tails
-even if the reaction from other people will almost always be bullcarp.

I get stupid reactions, indignant glances, angry remarks, and silly laughter even without tail, it's enough to swim a lot underwater, or raise your legs now and then a bit over the surface :p

Vielen Dank für Dein Kompliment! Wow, 23 - 25 Jahre! Da werde ich ja richtig rot! Ich wünschte auch mehr Gleichgesinnte wären in meiner Nähe. Manchmal fühlt man sich echt einsam als Nixe in Deutschland. Als ich mal am See war, haben die Mütter ihre neugierigen Kinder von mir weggezogen. Ganz so, als ob ich sie ins Wasser verschleppen würde! Im nachhinein lache ich darüber, aber in dem Moment kam ich mir echt bescheuert vor... *seufz*

The thing is, that almost all our pools in my area closed because of a new adventure water world. I did visit it once but it was so crowed! I think, I would be afraid of hurting someone while diving. The pools are so small. It's really a pity

Hi Pacifica! Greetings and welcome to the forum. It seems that there are quite a few mers from Germany around already, including me ;).

Considering pools, I was lucky to know a dive shop before starting mermaiding, so they let me come along sometimes when they have rented a pool for training. (although the shop is in a city I don't want to mention to a Brunswick lady :P). Maybe that could be an option for you, too?

Es ist immer wieder schön Gleichgesinnte zu treffen! Und dazu noch ein Meermann! Es scheint das "Mermaiding" endlich auch in Deutschland immer beliebter wird!
Ich sehe, dass Du aus Niedersachsen kommst. Hey dann sind wir aus dem selben Bundesland. Doch sag, warum magst Du mir die Stadt nicht verraten? Keine Angst, ich möchte keine Konkurrenz werden. ^^

ugh, I just looked up Braunschweig's pools in schwimmbadcheck.

It's true, 4 pools were closed down, and the "Wasserwelt" isn't that big and is rated subpar.
There are a few pools left further away, but well do I know the problem of overcrowded pools.

The only place where I saw pools more crowded than in Germany was in China lol.
Unless you find a time and place where there are a bit less people around, you won't be able to tailswim- not because you could hit them, but because they are going to hit you!
Frogkickers use up 3 lane spaces with their, ah, "technique", and a finswimmer one.

I really hope you can find a swimming opportunity apart from lakes.
I love Germany's lakes, but darn are they cold :p

ps. in southern Germany, mermaiding is quite popular. There are several clubs and merswim schools, which is probably why most pools here are cool with it.

Yup, I'm from Niedersachsen, too. The city is Hannover. :)

Keine Sorge, das hat absolut nichts mit Konkurrenz zu tun, im Gegenteil. Es freut mich, dass es hier im Norden so dicht nebeneinander einige Mers gibt.

So, back to English :). There are quite a few mers from the northern part of Germany. I know of at least two others from the forum and about two else who haven't signed up yet. So yes, mermaiding gets quite popular even here in the north.

I've never heard that there's mermaids in Sweden where I live but I've already been welcomed by two!

And yep, German lakes can be damn cold. Especially the ones in fhe mountains! But they're also very beautiful and not that crowded.:p
