Hi everyone!! :)
I am an aspiring mermaid from Melbourne, Australia
My name is Renay and I'm 14.
So far I have made 1 fabric tail and one neoprene sequined tail. After a lot of research I have decided I will make a silicone mermaid tail for my personal project which is a huge project we do at our school. I have found all of the websites to get all of the materials from and I will be ordering them hopefully soon. I have drawn up a few designs but not sure yet:):)

Sadly I have decided that making my tail with silicone is going to cost way too much and it would probably cost $1000 maybe even more just for the silicone. I have decided to use latex because it is the next best thing any tips about latex would be great :)

I would mosey on over to Julz's tail-making threads - she used latex :)

Awesome scales but it looks like there will be a lot of little undercuts where the scales meet, so depending on what you make your mold out of it may be hard to pull it out.

I agree with Ilyena...I thought you might have had them laid out backwards, as I would probably have the texture part on the end of the scale, rather than the part tucked under the scale above it. And they are going to need to be a lot closer together.

Julz IS the latex expert, so get in touch with her!

The picture is upside down that may be why the textured edge looks like it is on the top of the scale, will I need to start again to avoid the undercuts? I have made a practice mould out of plaster and it came off fine but I only took a mould of 3 scales 26371

Then you are layering them wrong. The ones you have underneath need to go on top.

Thanks for letting me know I might have wasted all that time doing a whole sheet :) i have scrapped the scales and started my fluke mould. I may try a different method with my scales.
