Hello, everyone!
One of my friends is helping me out big time and is having a custom tail made for me for free. (He knows a seamstress that he's working for who owes him a favor. he's the one who will be sewing the tail but she's supplying the materials.) I decided to take this as a chance to have the neoprene tail made for me that I was previously going to make myself. I was having a hard time raising up the money while racing the damage that piled up on my current fabric tail. Since they've never made a tail before I've been gathering a bunch of tips and tricks that I've found around Mernetwork to risk the chance of one or both of us being unhappy. The tail will have a vinyl shelf lining dorsal and fluke fringe.

I have a few questions because I don't remember having seen them around before. I want to have a zipper in the bottom of the fluke, but I'm also being mindful about having drainage holes in the fluke.

Are drainage holes necessary for neoprene tails?
Does the zipper let water flow through enough for it to not need drainage holes?
If drainage holes are recommended, how could this best be achieved?

Thank you for any help!

I have a neoprene tail that I made, and I have a few small holes in the fluke that work just fine. Now idk if the more professional tail makers advocate for them or not, but thought I could share my personal preference.
