Hey just a random question, and I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere else!
Has anyone tried to use a harder silicone to make a monofin?

I was wondering the same thing!!! I figured it would be very floppy and there probably wouldn't be much propulsion using just silicone. If you do try it I would like to know how it works.

Well looking at the dragon skin chart silicone gets as hard as hard hats! I'm sure if you found the right one you could get a pretty good monofin out of it

Flip tails have a harder silicone with a foot pocket instead of a monofin. The Mertailor's monofins are silicone too, I think, though not as hard. I don't know why this isn't done more often, maybe it's more expensive than the usual materials.

Ive been considering doing this. Mertailors have monofins though. I'm pretty sure. I think the biggest reason against it is that silicone is HEAVY. Monofins are designed to be light

I also think that some of the silicone - and other rubber types - might be prone to cracking or breaking at higher stiffnesses. You might be able to get silicone hard enough for a hard hat, but a hard hat doesn't have to flex.

I'm talking about his new fins that he makes himself, not in his full tails. I should have been more specific. You are right about the full tails.

I bet the manufacturers would have some good advice about making a silicone fin. Maybe you should ask :)

This is something that I am interested in doing as well.
