Thank you!!! It took a long time to decide on everything! I went through loads of normal fluke designs before I realized I should just design my own! My husband inspired me saying, "If you're going to spend money on a tail, it might as well be custom. Go big or go home." :)

In theory, I can see that is going to cause some drag when you swim, but since your fluke is going to be as big as a Competitor, I think the size will overcome most of the drag that the chiffon might have.

For me that funny to read or hear. :)

Since I started swimming with monofin, it was with a Waterway competitor.
I've learnt to handle it in crowded pool, make tight turns and everthing you guys do with your smaller monovins.
Until I came arcross this forum I've never known other sort of monofins existed. :D
And then hearing you guys telling eachother how big or hard to swim with the competitor is is just a bit funny.
It's almost like it's a mother of monofins and everyone threats is like somthing special.
I don't know and I can be (very) wrong, but it almost sounds like the thing is something big. :confused:

P.S. I don't really don't want to come across as arrogant or mean of something,
It's just something I've noticed for a while now. ;)
(I'm half stuggleling to find the right words ot tell things in a non-arrogant way :$)

Went to Home Depot today and got paint swatches! They're all from Glidden. Here are the pics all lined up together with my tail design. I also numbered them for an easier guide than I could describe. Haha I was wondering whether I should switch the 2's and 1's, since I noticed that real lotuses fade to a lighter pink at the base of their petals and actually get brighter and deeper pink at their tips? Like in the second image featured. Let me know what you think! I trust your artistic eye! Thanks, Pearlie!! :)

Here it is! I connected the top to the tail (just testing it out). I definitely want to have scales come up over my tummy since I have such a high waist so it'll stay on better and it'll smooth out any muffin top action. Haha

I know I'd definitely like for the waist to come up under my top's lotus petals, so I figure, "Why not just connect them with transparent scales?" Let me know what you guys think!

I also made the fluke a LOT bigger, which should help with propulsion and combat the drag from the silicone-covered chiffon. Also, I love big flukes (and I cannot lie). <3

I'm sure it'd be doable, but from what I've seen about how to put silicone tails on, it might be a lot of hassle.

That's what I've been wondering about! I'd like to have the advantage of a high waist because it'll smooth out my curves a bit and help me have more self-confidence in my tail. I'd LOVE to be able to just slide on my tail normally with confidence, but I wanted to see what everyone thought about the high-waisted design. If it doesn't work aesthetically or practically, I think that would just mean I should work on not caring about muffin top or anything like that. <3

I'm thick and soft in the middle (thank you menopause and Dunkin Donuts), and having the front cover my tum looks fabulous, if I do say so myself! The silicone holds everything in place quite nicely, I think!

(PS: I'm also working on a waist cincher piece that will give the illusion of a blended waist but comes up pretty high...more as I develop the prototype!)

I am hoping to have mine be about that height as well. I like have a comfortable margin of error in the back if I have to put my tail on fast and not have to worry about the dreaded mer-crack. I don't know why, but I also like to have my belly button hidden by my tail. It helps with the sitting pudge and keeps it from being awkwardly partially covered.

I took some shots of where my waist is so that you can see what I mean. It's really high up under my bellybutton. This is a bit of a victory to be able to post this. I feel much more confident without clothes. Haha I hope it helps.

I really like the new tweak you made, Lotus!! And whatever you want to do to feel comfortable is what you should do, just as long as you know what the tradeoffs are. I definitely like the idea of a tail covering most of one's midsection (belly button especially because do mermaids even HAVE belly buttons??), and I'm sure however your tail ends up Pearlie will do a fantastic job and you'll be really happy with it!! :)

Omg, sister!! I've such a short torso and high waist and my legs make up a good 80% of my height. Haha But I love my body. It's the clothes designers that don't seem to understand me! ╮(╯▽╰)╭

I'm a long torso, high-waisted girl... my silly (non-existent) inseam: 28 inches. *giggles* BUT when I measured my "waist" line to the floor-- as we mers tend to do, to see if we fit into these "resell" tails-- 39"!!! So that always puts a goofy smile on my face.
And I also adore my body. I love my curves and softer tummy. Being compact has it's advantages.

it is so much better than having a long torso and short legs :) My mom and I joke that her torso on my legs would be the best figure ever. Perfectly proportioned. Instead, I have my boyfriend's inseam (34") and am 10" shorter than him. My mom is taller than everyone in the room- until she stand up! We gotta love what we're given, because it isn't going to get any better!

okay I get really excited when I hear that name because we have a turkey vulture (I believe one of the oldest in captivity) and his name is Toulouse and his brother (who's at six flags) is named Lautrec
