Siren's Calling is Giving BACK!

Siren's Calling just passed our 2 year mark, and since its the holidays we want to help give back to the community!

During the first 2 weeks of December we will be auctioning off our current stock of jewelry to clear out space for new stuff! We have LOTS of new designs in the works and can't finish them until we have cleared some space!

So, I am proposing this- I will be taking applications from anyone and everyone (on Mernetwork) who is looking to raise money for their tails or is currently saving. I will go through and select a number of people equal to the number of products I will be auctioning off. Then we will go through and match up a person to a product, or if people like they can choose which they would like to be matched up with. After the 2 week auction (this will give people plenty of time to share, each item will be listed with a description and the details of who is matched with what product) and products have been paid for and shipped Siren's Calling will be donating 50% of each product to the person matched with that product! (this information will also be included in the description)

How to apply- Send me your story! What are you doing so far to save/raise/earn money for your tail? What kind of tail? What are your plans once you have a tail? And most importantly, WHY do you want a tail? (And for curiosity sake, we'd love to know who you're planning on ordering from and why. This isn't required, but will potentially help us grow to stand out from the rest)

NOTE: You can use the donations towards ANY tailmaker. Applying for the auction does NOT mean you have to buy from Siren's Calling! Once the Auction is over, we will let you know how much was earned, the donation amount you will receive, and will then send it to your Paypal, or donate it directly to your fundraiser if you have on going, so you can put it towards your tail no matter who you're buying from! (Having a paypal account, OR a current fundraiser is the only requirement)

It's a lovely idea for those that have it very difficult to save for a nice tail. ;) I'm already saving for more than 3 years and still haven't got 1/3 of what I need for a basic silicone tail :( As I'm disabled I'm not allowed to work and that makes it very difficult to save. :( I save the money from what I've earned with gigs (even for national TV) and from selling some home-made stuff (little mermaid dolls, dingle-hoppers, shoulderdragons and mini-albums), but all of it together is still not enough for the tail that I wish to have :(

I got asked a couple very good questions this morning-

Can I enter if I already have a tail? (looking to upgrade from fabric to silicone)

Can I use the funds if I am making my own tail?

The answers are Yes and Yes! Though the first selected for the auction will be those without tails, if there are still products left after the entries without tails I will be opening up to those with tails (make sure to send your entry NOW though, because once the deadline closes its closed)! Once the funds are in your hands, they are yours to use (so long as it is put towards a tail). Making a tail is a lot of hard work but, if you feel you're up for the challenge I say go for it! I know its SUPER hard to save for a tail (hell, I got a seasonal job at the mall to be able to buy the rest of what I need to finish the first silicone prototypes, and hopefully save up some extra to start the classes I want to take).

Fenicia & Skytroque- I feel really bad that I can't take everyone. The only way to make sure everyone gets a decent amount towards their tails is to put 2 items to each person, and since I only have 2 items left after that with 4 other applications there just isn't anyway to keep everyone :( I hope those who weren't chosen can understand.

If this goes as smoothly as I hope it will, I may end up making higher priced items specifically for another auction next summer.

Morticia: I understand, that's the nature of such an auction, and besides, you're giving back to the community, so it's good that some people get help towards a first or new tail. Besides, I think most everyone else is -probably- looking for a tail that costs a lot more than 150 (the quoted price for mine) so probably helps them out more anyways :)

I have never once in my adult life regretted having my ears pierced, and I absolutely hated the thought of getting them as a kid... Mostly because I was afraid of the piercing gun when I got my ears pierced at the tender age of 3 or so, LOL! I've had my ears pierced again since I turned 18 (so I have two holes in each ear), and it really doesn't hurt at all! And it enables you to wear all sorts of neat accessories like seaweed earrings ;) It's so fast, too! The second pair of holes I got, it was even the last "practice piercing" an employee at Spencer's (alternative/weird stuff store) had to do to get her piercing license :)

Me too Tieri. Oddly enough tattoos and piercings don't bother me though (probably because I never see the needles). Depending on where you go to get your ears done, you may never even see a needle. Most places use a piercing gun for ears, for proper center lobe placement :)

If you do decide to get your ears pierced, PLEASE never get them done with a piercing gun! Go to a professional piercing shop and have them done with needles. Piercing guns are abominable for a lot of reasons. Did you know that a piercing gun traumatize tissue and/or can shatter your cartilage? That the damage it can inflict can lead to permanent damage or even need for surgery? Or a dangerous blood transmitted diseases? I always advise people to get all piercings done with a needle at a proper piercing place, by a professional. YES, even lobes. Just not worth it to get it done with a gun.

You can not physically sterilize a piercing gun properly. They have shown that blood and tissue get lodged within the gun and mechanism, and that there have been cases where blood diseases are spread this way. The people who do these not trained, besides by a 10 minute video. There are times when the gun can jam or is angled the wrong way and can cause botched piercings and a lot of damage. The earrings are "sharp" on the back but not nearly sharp enough- you are essentially using a blunt rod shoved through your tissue that causes blunt force damage to your tissue that can lead to a lot of complications. Also the jewelry is not designed properly for healing at all and can cause tons of issues including infection and the skin growing over the backing.

What you don’t pay with in money you’ll pay in pain, tissue trauma, possible infection, rejection, ect. Possibly even STAPH infections, HIV, and Hepatitis. It's not worth it.
I've regretted getting my ears done with a piercing gun. 13 years later and I still have problems with my piercing holes becuase the tissue is scarred inside. I can hardly wear earrings for a whole day because of irritation and inflammation from the damage that was done, even with sterling silver or surgical steel earrings. My eyebrow that I got done by a professional? No problem whatsoever. It hurt for a fraction of a second (and I am very sensitive to pain of needles, I hate the things for that reason, but it seriously was no more than a second of pain and it was gone), was a little sore/sensitive in the initial healing. After that, painless- no trauma, no scarring, no pain. Totally worth the $40. I dearly wish I could go back in time and had my lobes done by a professional piercer. I’m just thanking god that I didn’t get any diseases, which have been proven have been spread via piercing guns.

Wow wish I'd seen this earlier,I was saving for a tail when I was felled with breast cancer, it's a long journey,but hopefully when I reach the end I will be able to save for a tail again..
I bought an above ground pool 22" at Wal-Mart , on close out so got it cheap..and have swim fins that I want to convert into a monofin type to practice.. I also got some swim fin gloves for extra propulsion and hopefully will be in better health to get my tail..My tail will be my survivor treat to myself..

I am hoping once i have finished paying off the things I need to like my ankle brace and fabric tail/fins etc that I can then start to save for my silicone tail :)
